recommendations for freeware drum machines?

i'm trying to find a drum machine to use so i don't have to use the garage band pre-made loops.

Doesn't it depend on which version you have, 1 or 2? So I have heard from a usually reliable source

GB doesnt have a sequencer (i don't think). Ive been looking for a drum machine - I'll try the ones mentioned above

The same article talks all about using built-in drum kits and whatnot. It references a book on GarageBand that is over a year old, so I think it's a safe bet they're talking about original GB.

i haven't been able to find the sequencer on garage band. i'll check again later.

i tried doggie box. it, for some reason, freezes when i try to use it. i'm ditching that one.

the other one didn't download for me.

you can sequence your own drums in garageband. puce is right, it has a built in MIDI controller. you can import drum loops from the sound bank, or create a virtual instrument using the virtual MIDI controller. it should open a new window with a little keyboard, the way the default opens a virtual piano track when you begin a session. you can magnify the shot of the keyboard so that the screenshot just shows like an octave of keys, which you can mouse on to create the beats.

Yeah - I suppose I don't know what a sequencer is.

Anyway - I haven't found that keyboard thing very useful in GB (althouh downloading Midikeys has helped it) - I prefer the step-sequencer type approach used by Fruity Loops or HammerHead
