Okay so I've been aware of Poppy for a few years now, but mostly cause a few years back she was doing these surrealist YouTube videos. Then she did an album of PC music influenced kind of bubblegum pop with all kind of kawaii influence, an ambient album, and...then skipping forward a couple, took a (relatively) abrupt turn into this bizarre blend of cutesy pop music and nu mutal/industrial metal with an EP and an album this year. Which, well, honestly, I love it. It's the weirdest example of genre mishmashing I've heard since Mr. Bungle and she's totally got the charisma to pull it off.
The rateyourmusic crowd is rather polarized on the change in style. But I'm definitely a fan.
