I spent some time today listening to some of my favorite Cd's from "back in the day". Like 1999.
In my mind commercial production hasn't really changed sence 1999. Then I started listening to them again. Listen to how bad the production gets on some of these huge commercial songs:
<a href="http://www.brusscom.com/misc/bad_production_0.mp3" target="_blank">SES - Every Sunday</a>
<a href="http://www.brusscom.com/misc/bad_production_1.mp3" target="_blank">Blink 182 - Adams Song</a>
<a href="http://www.brusscom.com/misc/bad_production_2.mp3" target="_blank">Tupac - Ambitions as a Rider</a>
<a href="http://www.brusscom.com/misc/bad_production_3.mp3" target="_blank">Incubus - Pardon Me</a>
On a couple of these, it sounds like typical SongFight production. What the hell.
EDIT: Upon thinking about it, alot of this seems to be a result of the loudness-race not having good enough software/hardware a few years ago...
Is it just me or...

The trappings of compressor/limitersSouthwest_Statistic wrote:It sounds like the mix on every one of those songs was intentionally distorted during final mastering.
