Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
Great letter, that. However, you certainly don't have to be a one or the other player. You can play both. Yay! I am certainly no master of either, but I've had my Stratocaster since '83, Tele since about '02. I love then both for, i guess, different reasons. Got my Les Paul in '89, but that's another story.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Yeah... I don't really like my SG...
Don't really like any of the Tele's I've ever played either... but I admit that this thread is making me consider picking up one of those super cheap Glarry Tele's just to have one... and confirm that I don't like Tele's...

SG's seem to be monty phython's holy grail movie in guitar form. It's almost comical trying to find "the one" and you're surely going to fail in your lifelong search. But if you are lucky or stubborn enough then you, too, can find a good one.

My browser did not show the image either, so I dug around the page source to find the actual image. While spelunking in the HTML, I found at the very bottom:

Aka: we want to track you and/or keep your details and not tell you why, but the big bad EU won’t let us. Wah!
I think all their newer stuff is GDPR compliant, but for a long time we couldn’t read anything from them.
Back to telecasters though!

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
Funny, in all my years of doing whatever it is I do on guitar, I don't recall ever playing an SG. Although my very first electric looked like one, a red Kay. I have a picture of my pajamas wearing doofus self holding it, I will sadly not share here.

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
This week's fight song has both Telecaster and Stratocaster in it. I panned them hard left and right, Tele comes in first, then Strat, playing higher parts, second. Halfway through they reverse parts. I used the same amp and settings, compressor, mic and preamp, without any changes, just switched guitars. While not emphasizing each guitars respective tones, as in spank or sparkle or whatever, I did it just to do it, I reckon. Both guitars in the middle pickup position, often an unpopular one.
Not really meant as self promotion, but if interested, check out the tones on this week's tune, in a basic rock setting.

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
The Crappiest Fender Telecaster:
Here's my Telecaster, which I bought used in 2014. It's the shittiest version ever made with the Fender name. The story I heard was that sometime in the 90s Fender had a bunch of extra parts they shipped to Mexico, and the factory slapped them together and labeled them "Squire Series". It does not have the through-body string ferrules that are standard for all other Fender Teles. A previous owner must have been a poseur who ineptly tried to 'distress' the body, and then apparently regretted it and filled in the chips with some sort of resin - an obvious, ham-handed effort that makes it embarrassing to take to the guitar shop. I have had to take this to the local guitar shop [Guitar Merchant, RIP] twice; both times the bridge pickup had stopped working due to the crappy wiring.
Still, I love love love this guitar, and I used it on most of Jerkatorium's recordings. It sounds great, it feels great, and every time I've tried to switch to a different guitar I eventually came limping back to this dumb cheap Telecaster.

Ooh, wow that one looks very tasty. I love the inlays, and the wood/finish with the black pick guard.

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
It does. The inlays are really cool and even the little side inlay at the 7th fret, which I only noticed when I was playing it myself and thought that was a cool little detail. This is perfect for me, as someone who doesn't use the "tone knob" (it's always full up...) this guitar doesn't even have a pesky tone knob! Just a volume and pickup selector (if you want less "tone" just use the useless neck pickup after all...)

That is a handsome guitar, love the look and set-up, but got-dang, that thing needs a tone knob. C'mon!

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
I have to confess, I never use my tone knobs either. I just keep 'em dimed. If I want a darker tone I just use the neck pick.

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
Oh yeah, while I'm here, I got a new Tele back in May. Behold, the Fender Parallel Universe Volume II Troublemaker Tele Deluxe in Olympic White, which is like a Tele version of a Les Paul Custom. The pickups are Fender "Double Tap" humbuckers which can operate in single-coil mode (for a more traditional Tele sound) with no volume drop. She plays like a dream and sings like an angel!

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
Man if I had to get another electric (probably won't anytime soon cause guitars are expensive and I'm still seriously loving my Sterling JP157), a Telecaster would be the way to go. I just love that tone. Okay, I like Les Pauls too.

Re: Telecasters of Song Fight!
Well Sleepy, if you'd like both a Telecaster and a Les Paul, I reckon that Lunks guitar would be both, really. That thing is beautiful and must have oodles of tonal options. Jealous!
Now experiment with those tone knobs!

Jimmy Page played the lead on "Stairway to Heaven" on a 1959 Telecaster given to him by Jeff Beck when he joined the Yardbirds. I love my Strat but I love Teles too.
Hi!
