i'm thinking of getting this keyboard: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... id=42-4070 just to have a cheap set of keys to work with. the thing is, it doesn't seem to have a MIDI output. will the headphone suffice? thxxx

MIDI and audio are two totally different things. The headphones will suffice for listening to the thing, but will be no use for controlling other MIDI instruments with the keyboard.

oh, i dont need to use it for a midi controller. i just want to know if i can record the sounds the keyboard itself makes at a decent quality.

depends on your definition of "decent". my definition says "no".

Unless you have mini fingers, or are exceptionally dexterous, or want to play one note at a time I'd say no.

The Yamaha PSR172 is as cheap as (61 key) keyboards go new. $129.99, and it has MIDI in and out. I took one of these home from work to use as a MIDI controller (I ripped the speakers out), and it worked fine until the power source exploded (the reason why it was returned (the reason why I got to take it home)).

If Casio is your flavor, they make something around 149.99 that's basically the same thing, but sounds a little better.

Obviously, you're not looking for quality if you're looking for 25 dollar keyboards. Go to a pawnshop, man.
