Name change?

Hey everyone,

I used to do a lot of Songfighting back in the day ('04-'06) under my real name. Loved it here and learned so much.

Just curious - is there any way to change my name on the archives? Like change the artist name from Ryan Rickenbach to Ryan Rick or Ryan Christopher?

Spotify insists on crawling data from the SF Jukebox and it's been skewing the algorithm to people I've been in songfights with.

If it's a pain in the ass don't worry about it but I thought I'd ask.

Hope everyone is well!

Ryan

I'm really curious to know specifically what you mean by this:
Spotify insists on crawling data from the SF Jukebox and it's been skewing the algorithm to people I've been in songfights with.
(I don't use Spotify much.)

So when I first posted my music on Spotify, the default "Similar Artists" were all Songfight artists. Considering I had no streaming data on Spotify, I assumed it was pulled from Songfight and SF Jukebox. No big deal.

Then I had some streaming numbers, and the artists updated to those who sounded more similar to my stuff. This was a good thing, as more people began finding my music through other artist's "radio" feature.

And then a few weeks ago, it just reverted completely back to what it was before I had any streaming data - here's what it looks like now:

I reached out to Spotify and they said that beyond streaming data, my list of Similar Artists is "determined by algorithms that use a combination of your fans' listening habits, what’s written about you on Spotify, and music discussions and trends happening around the internet".

I have no idea why Spotify would place more weight on old SF songs than actual streaming data, but here we are. So I thought I would see what would happen if I was able to change my SF songs to "Ryan Rickenbacher" or something. Spotify is really unhelpful in providing any detailed info on how this all works. :/

Listeners also like * LISTENERS - LAST 28 DAYS
your fans' listening habits
Is it possible that in the last 28 days your fans on Spotify were just listening to Song Fight artists more than non Song Fight artists? Maybe things will change again as that trailing 28 day time window moves forward?

Anyway, there are significant technical issues with mucking about in the archive data because of how the site works. So, while your situation sounds mildly annoying, I don't think at this point that it merits me having to risk breaking the whole site and spending hours sorting through what breaks etc. Sorry!

All good, thanks for getting back.
