Arguably the most famous example in pop music is the bass solo from Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al." Half of it is played normally and the other half is the same recording backwards. (It's at time code 3:44 in this video):

This minuet by Joseph Haydn is one big palindrome, made of nested palindromes:
0:01-0:20 is reversed at 0:20-0:38
0:38-0:59 is reversed at 0:59-1:21
Then the first section is repeated

This pairing, in retrospect, screams Gregorian chant to me. To be clear, Gregorian chant should be chanted - not screamed.

But…. We won’t be disqualified for a Gregorian scream right?

As I am writing a song with the title "Deified" for Americans - obviously I will be using a lot of gun-shot sound effects.
Am I allowed to digitally change the sounds of bullets hitting children to make them palindromic? Or do I have to use the actual soundtrack?

I suppose I could write a song about the separation of church and state....but you give any silly a cunt a gun and...

I guess it's easy to group all "Americans" in this situation... however I'll be the first to say that as an "American" I don't stand by any of this bullshit. Fuck your Church. Fuck your God. Fuck your Guns.

Vom Vorton and Cavedwellers (and Cybronica) have seen this challenge before.
That was a whole song palindrome though, this feels considerably more forgiving!

Thanks for all the examples, guys! I am crafting a song that is almost guaranteed to lose me the round, but then again I was pretty much headed that way anyway. It's ok, I know my stuff (especially Omnichord) is an acquired taste. Plus I do not know how to mix. I am in it for the prompts to write songs, mostly. Plus it is very helpful to get the feedback.

It's a bit late and I also hate to also be that person, but, it doesn't say in the challenge that the palindrome "musical phrase"/melody has to be in the vocals, lead or otherwise. Are the judges expecting it to be in the lead vocal though...?

I guess I need an answer to this too. I put the palindromes in the guitar line and was not planning to have any in the vocals.

It reads like it has to make musical notes. So vocals, guitars, talented farting, whales, brims of glasses, timpanis.
I never interpreted it as it had to be in the vocal line necessarily. I am not a judge, but I trust they would specify vocals if that's what they wanted.

I can't speak for the other judges but what Glennny said
