Cast a Shadow
Lichen Throat

Hey, Lady Grey,
Come to my chateau.
I don’t mind if you stay late,
But leave the crucifix at home.
You can wear white one last time,
And I’ll be dressed in black.
I’ll be up past your bedtime,
While you lie on your back.
I don’t cast a shadow on the ground outside my door,
But I’ll cast a shadow on this world forevermore.

Let’s take a walk at midnight;
I await you breathlessly.
I’ll have you home by daylight,
’Cause you’ll live here with me.
There’s a graveyard by the abbey
Where I have a second home.
The upholstery is kind of shabby,
But the tourists leave you alone.
I don’t cast a shadow on the ground outside my door,
But I’ll cast a shadow on this world forevermore.

Tonight, in your slumber,
You may have unpleasant dreams,
But I’ve got to keep up my numbers,
In this deathly pyramid scheme.
I can grant you a lifetime
Of pale and perfect skin
An existence just like mine,
That never, ever ends.
I don’t cast a shadow on the ground outside my door,
But I’ll cast a shadow on this world forevermore.

Cast A Shadow
the pannacotta army

Look down from the heavens
And everything looks small
When there’s no perspective
You’re not afraid to fall

Climb the mountain
To cast a shadow wide
Across the water
To the other side

Your eyes refuse to open
To witness what is real
Without your limitations
There’s nothing to feel

Climb the mountain
To cast a shadow wide
Across the water
To the other side

A desperate ambition
But no one wants to listen

That weight on your shoulders
Is turning your heart black
The light is growing dimmer
And troubles are at your back

Cast A Shadow - Paco del Stinko

His only mistake was he cast a shadow
As he crept up from behind

The shape of his head the outline of the dagger
Rising up on the wall in front of his victim

He cast a shadow
He cast a shadow
He cast a shadow

No creak of the floorboard the cat didn't startle
Only a dim light from behind spoiled his intention

Sometimes something simple can be overlooked
Putting even best laid plans to waste
Sometimes opportunity knocks - knocks knocks knocks
And you better open up the door

She cast a shadow as she bent over her assassin
And kissed his forehead and said nice try

She cast a shadow
She cast a shadow
She cast a shadow

Cast A Shadow - Brown Word and the Big Whine
Notes
It's been over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for several days here in Austin, TX. I like to sit for a minute in my backyard and cook. These are my observations and while it is not even close to the dog days of summer yet, we're getting to taste them now. In 2 months it will hotter and everything will be more dead and brown - except for my friend, to whom I dedicate this song. Can you guess who/what she is?
Cast a shadow
A shadow long and cool
In the days of June and July

Shield my body
Let me bask in your shade
August, September, the eye of the Sun

It's the dog days baby
High noon blasting
People are wild with sweat
Yeah it's hot
The air is electric
Below the dome of the Texas sky

Be my umbrella
Please be my bumbershoot
If the storms gather up and explode

Unfold your canopy
Open arms to the clouds
Let the birdies land on your hands

Yeah it's really cooking
Got that sweat on my brow
The dusts blow in from the Sahara
Out on the freeways
The blood keeps pumping with gasoline
And you cast that shadow cool and long

Cast A Shadow
Pigfarmer Jr

I never knew you well
but I remember when you were around
Now when I walk through these fields
I'm walking the same old ground
I've heard stories about you
when you were old and when you were young
Some of the funny things
you had said and done

You're just a figure in my memories
Someone my children will never meet
You cast a long shadow in the stories we tell
You're still a part of our family

You were the first one to pay off
the mortgage we owed on this old farm
For a hundred years we've worked the cattle,
we've kept them from harm
We fight with the land as much as it gives us
a place to call our own
It provides for our family and gives us a place
that we can call home

You're just a figure in my memories
Someone my children will never meet
You cast a long shadow in the stories we tell
You're still a part of our family

Cast a Shadow
Watching Owls

A tree casts a shadow
On the ground
The night casts shadows
All around
Of all the things that cast a shadow
You’re the one I like
To have around

A flag casts a shadow
In a million ways
The sun casts shadows
Every day
And even when clouds
cover the sky and I can’t see
Your presence
Expels my agony

Light beams and I-beams
Windscreens and tent seams overhead
Light-seeking, sight-seeing
Miles and miles to tread
And you have the best shadow I’ve found

Your hair always covers
your face
Wrapping your head
in place
Of all the ways to hide beauty away
This darkness, it gets in the way

Ten million fragments
of light
Encircle your head
despite
All of your efforts to hide away
I still see you so bright

Light beams and I-beams
Windscreens and tent seams overhead
Light-seeking, sight-seeing
Miles and miles to tread
And you have the best shadow I’ve found

Tell me you’ll never
Run away
I want to hear
You say
That even when life gets tough,
everything smooth gets rough,
I wanna know that you’ll stay

Light beams and I-beams
Windscreens and tent seams overhead
Light-seeking, sight-seeing
Miles and miles to tread
And you, mmmm
You, mmmm
You have the best shadow I’ve found
