Song-Related Braggin'

I can't find the 'listen to my song' thread ....

The Little Smokes entered a radio competition yesterday evening at xfm radio- to write a 'feelgood hit of the summer' - which got played this morning on their breakfast show, apparently, so we have now been heard by several hundred thousand tired british indie fans. So I have been instructed by another member of the band to brag!

Generally speaking, I guess if they play your song before the deadline, it probably means you won't win, but hey, a little moment of fame nonetheless :)

You can hear what they heard here

[words by Johnny Cashpoint, music by the Little Smokes. Vocals Sarah Beanz, bass & backing vocals j$, rhythm guitar Andy Balham, lead guitar Stevie Windsor]

Hey j$,

Im just back to songfight, after a bit of a studio problem related absence, and I just had to comment on the exceptional improvement in quality of your work. Mastering your stuff is really working out for you I can hear.
Sorry to interupt your thread, I just had to say, y'know..

Kepp up the good work..top draw..

oh yeh Ill listen to your song later and let ya know what I think..whether you care or not...

Oh, thanks a lot! That's really heartening to hear and yes, I care to hear anyone's opinion of y stuff, good, bad or annoying. I don't pick and choose my critics so that I only hear how great I am so please if you want to listen, do and say what you think.

It is worth pointing out that the lyric is VERY VERY British, full of references that might not cross the Atlantic very well. We were going for the Kinks (later, whimsy-pop era) ...

Nice vocals

I'd like to get this played on loudspeakers over every coastal town between North Queensland and Bondi Beach. Ten thousand pasty-faced soccer-hooligans might get homesick and bugger off back where they came from

Nice song.
NB Henman is not 'going out'. This year he will win!... possibly... or not.

Update: as of thursday afternoon, we are on their 'best of' short list on the XFM website, with this fairly accurate review:

"If Kirsty McColl was still with us, and writing odes to the crappness of British Summer in much the same way that she once encapsulated the rubbishness of hanging out with a smackhead in New York at Christmas, it's more than likely she'd offer something like this tribute to wasps floating in plastic glasses of beer and Henman crashing out of Wimbledon"

Wish I had thought of the wasps in beer image. Still don't think we'll win, but if we do, I will try and get a plug in for songfight.

Oh Henman went out. Yesterday afternoon ... :)

Congrats on getting one step closer to crackin' the big time :-)

You mentioned that you'll be away from your music stuff next month... will you still have web access and a little free time? Any interest in seeing if we can resurrect the "copy all the old lyrics into the new lyrics thread" project???

congrats on your shortlisting! Good luck

Lets hope you do better than Henman - I see he choked earlier than usual this year. He was out almost before The Poo - the King of Chokers (ie. Mark Philapousis - for the unititiated).

Wimbledon will be Little Lley-Lley's this year - he's in form now he's stopped shagging that stupid Belgian tart and gone for a proper Aussie soap-opera star instead.

aw, I stayed in Oxford for 3 months as an exchange student (about 10 years ago). I lived in Chillingworth Crescent in Wood Farm, up Heddingdon Hill. What a beautiful city! I can't wait to go back someday!

Shit yeah.

This is pretty hip. I really liek the outro - like the last six notes that cut into the (seagulls?) very nice.

Nice tune j$,
It kinda reminds me of Slade doing a summer tune, if ya get wat I mean.
It almost needs a deep husky voice screaming ITS SUMMER
the lead during the 2nd verse could be a touch higher but the disolve at the end to seagulls if awsome. Good British lyrics tho I guess wimbledon, tail backs and complaints about the heat. But I gotta be honest n say I aint to mad on the snare sound, it needs more variety in the hits, maybe a differnt sample or two would make it sound more live, and the lead tone is slightly to fat for me, could lose a touch of the mid. The rest of the inst sounds are great. I love the really soft pic accoustic and the organ is sweet
I hope you get somthing from this dude, you deserve it
