Hey,

I'm planning to do an AAD soon. ANyone who wants to challenge with difficult titles or unweildy samples let me know. If there's enough sadistic folks out there, it coudl be a big thing with a deadline. And anyone would be free to use the same challenge parameters on the same day.

You know, this tempts me very much. But I can't do it because I wouldn't be able to do anything right away and now I've seen it, that counts as 'pre-empting' ..... maybe I could get you to choose a random track listing from your cd collection, Jute, and pm it to me so that I won't see it until the moment I am ready to start?

When I did my AAD - hear it here ;) I decided to use as song titles phrases from spam emails I received on that day, and made the whole thing into a concept album.
That was a fun challenge...

I've long thought about doing an album with the following song titles:

1. Just a small town girl
2. Livin’ in a lonely world
3. She took the midnight train
4. Goin’ anywhere
5. Just a city boy
6. Born and raised in South Detroit
7. He took the midnight train
8. Goin’ anywhere [reprise]

If you made it, I'd be happy.

I might do that sometime just to appease you. Although it would probably be a noise-crap album. You really could do this with almost any lyrics, although Journey's really do all sound like song titles.

1. There's a feeling I get
2. When?
3. I look to the west and...
4. My spirit is crying
5. For leaving
6. In my thoughts
7. I have seen
8. Rings of smoke
9. Through the trees
10. ... and the voices
11. Of those who stand looking

1. Hey you
2. What do you see?
3. Something beautiful
4. Something free
5. Hey you (reprise)
6. Are you trying?
7. To be
8. Mean
9. You live with apes
10. Man
11. It's hard
12. To be (clean)

Good call, but I'd never be able to write anything other than the TISM songs themselves, so firmly entrenched in my mind are all TISM songs.

Even though I figure you mean that as some kinda sarcastic condemnation... it's cool to evolve... or ...uh... rules were made to be broken? Maybe not...

I guess I'm just not sure what you are referring to...

Although, I really want to do an ADD sometime. So, what are the rules? I want to do one right... so, for example, is prep-sleeping the day before and getting the equipment all miked up and ready to go cheating? I assume that picking titles and riffs and stuff before hand is not on par with the concept... but ...is their a FAQ or something on this? Anyone?

I did mention this idea to Dana...told her...one day...one day I'm gonna do this.. hahaha...makes' me think of this week's boonliver lyrics! so apt...

To create an Album-a-Day, you record a piece of music following these rules:

# It must be written, performed, recorded, post-produced, etc. all in one contiguous 24-hour period (preferably with no sleep break in there).
# It must be at least 20 minutes or 30 songs. (many short songs tend to work better than long songs which drag on forever, trust me.)
# Your band may have multiple participants, but they should not work on different songs simultaneously. (So just one song being worked on at a time.)
# No ideas from before the chosen day! This means covers or reinterpretations are not allowed.
# No out-takes! If you start a song, finish it and put it on the album.

pre-micing seems to be OK. the heart of the matter is avoiding preconceptions. the album should be about what you're feeling when you start it.

ok... I think I got it then. I was just worried that if I hasd the studio set up to go that this would be a cheat... but it seems that the creative process must be inclusive to one day. I didn't know about the concept of having to use what ever you worked on ..but it makes sense in a way.. it's like when people play seasons on a sports video game, but refuse to save after a loss. Deal with it..you lost.

So... now to find a day to do this. I prepped Dana on it, cause I figure after a day of this...I'll need at LEAST one to recover...

but ...does one have to do this through a particular website for it to be relevant? This is another etiquette point I'd like to know...

The rules are at http://crapart.spacebar.org/aad/.

Self-hosted, just notify them when it's done and they'll post a link to it. I think it took me about two weeks after doing mine to decide that it was good enough to 'turn in." As far as I can tell, there's no "review threads" on the AAD site' I mentioned mine here on songfight but only got a couple comments back. BME covered one of the songs from my AAD on the first hxaro lovefest.

I remember there was one song on there that I would have abandoned if not for the "keep every song you start" rule, but I don't remember which one it was.
