Steve Albini Coverfight

Post by Chumpy »

Hello my SongFight friends,

For those of us admire Steve Albini recordings, I propose a sidefight to celebrate his glorious body of work. As a performer, he's been in a number of very influential bands. As an engineer he recorded an estimated 1500 albums. Let us each record a cover of a song from this giant corpus. I am volunteering to run this fight, and hope you will join me!

Deadline: 2024-06-09 23:59:59 Eastern
Submit your song to: chumpy.wumpikins@gmail.com

Feel free to post dibs. Feel free to ignore other people's dibs. I seriously doubt there will be duplicates.

If we get enough songs to launch, I promise to record an insipid podcast, where I will delight our devoted listener with my ignorant and shallow remarks about your song.

Very torn between Helmet - Unsung and something by Burning Witch. But also maybe Leftover Crack? Augh! Or Melt-Banana? Paralysis by too many options!

something by Burning Witch.
I'd forgotten he'd done that session! One of my life's great sadnesses is that my Burning Witch t-shirt... does not fit as well as it once did.

Gonna do Goatsnake. I have to. Didn't know Albini recorded my favorite song of theirs until he died!

Well, except - Albini didn't perform, record or mix this.

Whelp folks, we're almost a month past my rather optimistic deadline, and so far no submissions. I'd complain that you're all a bunch of slackers, but I have not completed my cover either. How are people feeling about this? I'm considering extending the deadline to the end of July. I know I'm personally spending much of the month practicing for SongFight Live in Denver, so this timeline I think works for me anyway.

Thoughts?
