Chili Dogs and Rum
Pigfarmer Jr
She worked two jobs for years and years and years
All the while she was barely getting' by
She's finally old enough for the social security check
Maybe now she won't stay up to cry
She lives on chili dogs and rum
She hates what she's become
Can't drown the dreams no matter how she tries
Been working since she was young
Now she's ready for what's to come
With nothing left to do but wait and die
Her husband died so many years ago
Left her with a child to raise alone
She gave him all she had and sometimes he still calls
And maybe he will visit when she's gone
She lives on chili dogs and rum
She hates what she's become
Can't drown the dreams no matter how she tries
Been working since she was young
Now she's ready for what's to come
With nothing left to do but wait and die
If I asked her what she was dreaming of
I wonder what she'd say
Would she smile or would she push me away?
I don't know how she finds the strength
To go on every day
She lives on chili dogs and rum
She hates what she's become
Can't drown the dreams no matter how she tries
Been working since she was young
Now she's ready for what's to come
With nothing left to do but wait and die
With nothing left to do but wait and die
