Having beer on a work night, unheralded these days! Harumph-a-blrrb! First listens, top three get votes.
Berkeley Social Scene - Kinda muffly, very Glenn influenced. Love the blurpys. Pleasant melodies if not big grabby. I dig the soft mix but at the same time would like a bit more bite. But yeah, wouldn't I?
The Big Wheels - This is not Chief Big Wheel. Very BSS Pt. II. I like the hooky space sounds and the chunky rhythm. Ahh-ahh-ahh sells it with the melody, space and major key change. Nice. OK, too much spacey.
Distance - Midi and real play (maybe, doubt it) Like the melodies staccato and all, layers underneath. Maybe teeters into the rhythm pulling wee much. Arrangement is great, quietly developing and snoring bass is great. Like the vocals.
EDGE STREET BOYZ - Bubbles from a nerd nose. Love the bubbles, so effective. Good rhymers but I don't know what you're saying because of mental decline. Great warpage, production is nice. I like the voice and what I understand, needs a little more, abandon, maybe? Great modern day-ness.
Lunkhead - Oh, very nice. Must be nice to be mature (enough) to make this. Dig the comin' around progression and story. Very nice vocalizing, easy but still tapping into the feel. Devil finds us, one more...should win. Fuckin' A, Lunkopolis!
Mystic Colossus - Casio in the dept. store. Needs tightening within the simple and lean arrangement. Hooky melody, simple. Somehow very 80s, but you must be 17 or something. The bell tone keys are right where they should be and offer a quiet headiness. Good drive. I want this by a bass/drum/synth band, amped. What's that band: Something Islands?
Paco del Stinko - Pitchy second take vocal, improvised the night before, re-done the next afternoon and could be done again. Ol' Martin 0016C. Dynamics, people, dynamics.
Pigfarmer Jr - Direct board Neil kissing Bruce, coming out you. Lighter waving chorus, bass line helps sell the hook, uncredited. Bridgey bridge works well. The dynamics and swell give the breath it needs. Pleasant, hook at end of chorus totally effective. Right arm!

I'm 52, but Mystic Colossus is essentially the band I wish I could have formed in the early/mid 90s (when I was in my late teens and early 20s), so I guess I hit pretty much the vibe I was going for.

Well, young sounding voice. Good tune however old. Nice feeling to get what you were going for, too.
