I have always liked your Systematic Panic and your voice. No notes, really — at first I thought maybe some of the synth is too old school for me (though I was in my teens in the early 80s, so it’s definitely familiar), but it works and works well with your voice. I think it could maybe use some variety, especially in a four-plus minute song. The only thing that doesn’t work for me (whatever THAT’S worth) is the “I’m going back” line; it jars me each time. But really nice tune, listened twice.

Berkeley Social Scene:

Vocals could come up, I think. Slightly too quiet. Really like that riff right after the chorus before the next verse. Maybe some harmonies in the bridge (Battlefield/hell is for children) part? And I think the harmonies in the Sacrifices must be Made part could come up too. It would be nice if — at some point — the main vocals really kicked it up a notch, belted it out.

Hey this is really nice. Something about the Sacrifices Must Be Made line doesn’t work for me. I like how you come to it —Crisis, Devices — but the first time especially, the line feels shoehorned in (which yea, this is songfight, so it sort of was). You might play with the rhythm and delivery to make it fit more naturally. It works better the second and third time, I think, but you still might want to tweak it. I like that melodic lead after the second chorus. You might want to revisit the drums, though —some variety and a different sound? But great tune really.


Lichen Throat:

I haven’t heard your stuff in a couple years. You always seem to have a lot / too much going on in the background that competes against each other and your vocals. Maybe finding the right, simpler mix and style of music might help figure out a vocal style that works and fits. Are you playing the guitar? I would turn the vocals down a bit.

Spiral Island:

The music needs a bit more punch. The drums need to land a little heavier. I bet the vocals are affected by your living arrangements — i.e. you can’t really belt it out because of family / roommates / apartment neighbours or something like that, which I totally get. But that makes it sound like you’re trying to record vocals quietly on a song that needs you to be belting it out. Others might have solutions? Blankets in a bathroom to disturb your neighbours less? Or just knowing that it’s only a short amount of time and just go for it (which is tough to do if you’re in an apartment). But the vocals don’t really match the music, which wants to rock.

kennebec manifesto:

This is me. I’m going to revisit the Sacrifices Must be Made line in the chorus — which is already a revisitation of the original attempt, which didn’t quite work. I might also lengthen and further dubbify the ending. I might do none of this and just move on with my life.
