I've been attemping to get decent at making music via the computer. I see all these neat plug-ins and stuff, but I don't know how to install things. The DLL files are messing with my mind, and I don't know if you have to have a special program to run them.
Please help!
(I use Fruity Loops 4.1)

Go to Options->Directories->Search for VST plugins in & define a valid path.
... FruityLoops does a search in all the subdirectories of your VST directory. So if you set it to your hard drive's root, it will search your whole hard drive & will list *all* of your plugins ...
So basically, you need to create a VST plugins directory somewhere (doesn't matter what you call it), copy all the plugin files into that directory, then tell Fruity where to find it.

Sorry, but in my options folder, there is no directories option. Also, after I copy them to it, where can I find them on the preset menu?

You want: Options/Project General Settings/System/File.
At the bottom you'll see where to put the path to the VST plugin folder.

Alright, I've gotten thus far, but now I have a new dilemma. The presets are making a harsh clicking noise, and they won't play the file. Am I doing something wrong?

Erm... It could be a huge number of things from a bad sample to an overstretched CPU... If the CPU meter at the top is touching 100% at any point it's probably that...
To be honest I don't use FL a lot, or at all really.

Sorry, one last thing.
Everything is listed and the directories are in the right place, but I can't drop the menu down.
