Board Games

I've been obsessed with German-style board games lately. Unfortunately, I don't live near anyone else that plays these, so I"m restricted to those that I buy myself. And I am only buying those that are good for 2 players, which leaves out some very highly regarded games. I have Carcassonne (+ the traders&builders expansion), San Juan, Ticket to Ride, and Maharaja. I just ordered Lost Cities, Torres and Samurai .
Anyway, I'm curious who else is into this kind of thing.

I used to play games like Blitzkrieg and Panzer Bliz... Gettysburg.... american war board games. Me and some buddies still occasionally play them... kinda fun.

I love board and card games. I'm about to get some equipment that sort of forces me to make my game room into more of a recording studio-type thing. So I'm bidding farewell to a good portion of my games. I'll keep a few though. These are the ones I can't part with.
Chaos Marauders
Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb
Bermuda Triangle
Family Business
Illuminati
Zombies!
I've also made a few card games. I thought maybe I'd grow up to be a game designer, but then I realized I just like making games, and I don't much like the game business.

don't know those.... here are some of my own favorites, in the "strategy game" category, which is really somewhere between board games and war games:
carcassonne (and carcassonne: the castle, which is specifically for two)
tikal
roborally
puerto rico
settlers of catan
tigris & euphrates - only played once, but it shows definite promise
traders of genoa
funagain games is an excellent place to shop, and see both published and user reviews. all of the above games, i think, are available there. we just made an order of some games too!

oooh, RoboRally is great too. I'll have to keep that one.
I don't have Settlers of Catan, but I like that one a lot. I'm not very good at it though.

Illuminati! Steve Jackson is a GOD!
Anyone remember/have a copy of his TAG: The Assassination Game LARP? Lost my copy in the '80s, whilst running a game... before high school shootings became far too real, alas.
Boy Sprouts of America, heh. Good stuff.
Any Car Wars freaks notice how the butch new Dodges look like something from the art of that game?

I totally remember TAG,

I just bought a fun game I played on my way to Boston called Jungle Speed.
I should also mention that the Loyalty Day crew are pretty good Scrabble players.

Played TAG in high school as well. That is, until the principal caught wind and put an end to it.
A really fun one is <A href="

On The Waterfront, and a really cheezy Travolta reading from
Grease (my brother got it immediately).

Here's a good overview of what I meant by German-style games:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German-style_board_game
A lot of their examples have already been mentioned, but I am just pointing out that it's a specific kind of game, differing from typical American-style games in a number of ways.
Anyway, this should be more about what is actually fun to play than board game nerditude.
I also really like Rummikub and Scrabble. Robo rally is awesome. illuminati is awesome (though I have not tried the CCG version). and I went through a severe and expensive Magic phase.
Jungle Speed sounds fun.

if we expand the boundaries, we really like scrabble too. balderdash is a fun party game, especially when there's imbibements involved

i also enjoy boggle, for which there is a cool web-game:
weboggle
and the aforementioned fluxx, which some don't enjoy...

euchre, cribbage, and uno in the card games category.
lately we've had fun with "once upon a time" which is a storytelling game - you have to tell a collaborative story using the items on your cards. it's set up for fairy tales.

College favorites:
Backgammon - only the pieces were, uh, jays. so your handycap was enhanced each time you took one off the board
Rummikub - some games went on for days
Scrabble - a staple of idle minds
Cozmic Wimpout - strange set of dice that produced similar effects as Backgammon

My friends and I play alot of risk(lord of the rings edition), but Ive been thinking about buying the Risk 2210 AD. Its got a new world board and a moon board. Seems pretty cool.
The board game Dwarven Dig is alot of fun also, and the person with the biggest beard goes first, which is pretty sweet for me.

I know for a fact that you are more than four years younger than me. Most likely, by the time you were in high school, I was already out.
