i just found out that this has been made into a movie that will be released soon. i read the book this summer and absolutely loved it. i wasn't sure how i felt when i found out about the movie, but the trailer looks pretty good.
here is the site with the trailer.

the only thing that bothers me is that i hear they left the back story of trachimbrod out completely. foer approved of the film though. anyways, i'm really looking forward to it.

The movie is awful. Schriver is a terrible director who turned obviously talented actors and an obviouly interesting story into a long and primarily boring series of events. I was totally underwhelmed.
I do, however, really want to read the book now.

Rent it if your curious, as there are some entertaining scenes, but as a whole it's totally disapointing.
I will definitely check out the book.

i'm sure i will rent it. supposedly, foer (the author) thought the movie was great, even though they left out half of the story.

I finally saw this last night. I'd heard from everyone that it's a huge disappointment. It would've been if I had gone in not knowing what to expect. I knew that they left an entire half of the novel (the history of Trachimbrod), so I was prepared for that. So completely seperate from the book, I thought this movie was great.

We rented this a while ago and I actually thought it was pretty good. I've never read the book, though. I didn't feel like there was any part hugely missing.

The book is made up of two storylines. One, written by Alex, is about the search, which is the movie. The other, which is at least half the novel, is the long and detailed history of the village of Trachimbrod (the place with the monument by the river). It was a huge chunk to be missing. It would actually probably have to be stretched across several movies to do it any justice.
