I haven't seen one horror movie that could even come close to The Shining. Rosemary's Baby is pretty freaky too though.

i think donnie darko is a good halloween/october movie. pretty kickass movie even if it's not october imo.

My yearly Halloween viewing consists of:

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
The Simpsons Halloween Special (I don't have them all, maybe the first eight or so)
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow (Disney, animated)
Dawn Of The Dead (the 70's version. Haven't seen the remake, but I'll probably check it out on DVD this yr.)
Army Of Darkness (I'd watch the other Evil Dead movies too, if I had 'em.)

Ohh I dug "Prince Of Darkness" by John Carpenter. It's the one where the Devil is living in the basement of the church. And Alice Cooper plays the lead zombie/bum who uses half of a bicycle frame to do someone in!

What's your favorite kill/death in any horror movie? I like in one of the Friday the 13th (you know, the one where Jason is dead but somehow comes back to life? You know that one?). He picks up someone in a sleeping bag and WHACKS them into a tree! Good stuff indeed!

I think the movie death that affected me the strongest was in Saving Private Ryan, when they're making those bombs with socks or whatever. And this one guy goes to throw it at a tank and it goes off prematurely, and he's just <i>gone</i>. Nothing to remember him by, and no time to absorb it. Holy shit.

Saving Private Ryan

All these people talking about these harrowing scenes in that movie that they'll never forget, noooooooooooo thanks.

I thought I'd think that about Schindler's List, but it was mercifully restrained.

Scene I'll never forget: In Band of Brothers, when they come across the first concentration camp and they don't know what it is.

The most graphic part about Saving Private Ryan was the start of it, granted it was about 20 minutes of graphic, but that was the most intense. The sock bomb part was pretty compelling as well. The thing I appreciated about that movie and most modern movies of that era are the insight to what those men went through. My father fought in WWII. He didn't like to talk about it too much. Imagine landing at Normandy for a minute. Then imagine yourself fighting your way through Germany to be one of the first men at Auschwitz. I can't do it, I can't even imagine it in my worst nightmares. Seeing that opening scene from Saving Private Ryan gave me a least a little insight, albeit very little, to what my father and men like him went through. Yes those scenes are a harsh and graphic portrayal of War, but people should watch them, and it should shock the shit out of them. Presidents or anyone else quick to call on our Armed Services to go and fight should be forced to watch that opening scene for 24 hours straight before making a decision to go to war, like A Clockwork Orange. Speaking of scary........
