Bonjour, Mon Ami by Johnny Cashpoint
Took the Channel boomerang To Calais, northern France
To get cheap booze and cigarettes, I got a brief romance
At the hyper-marche to buy some duty free
The local checkout girl she smiled and sold herself to me
CHORUS: She said Bonjour mon Ami
I said Au Revoir Ma Cherie
C’est la Guerre, C’est La Vie
Doesn’t make much sense to me
Tried to make myself understood but I always found French so hard
Looked as if I’d got through, she smiled, then sold me a mobile top-up card
My ferry was leaving at half past five, had no time for her sang-froid
I tried once more, she looked confused and sold me a CD by Claude Francois
CHORUS x 3
Only 26 miles away but only 24 hours in the day
I wish that I could make her see - she could be my Amelie!
M’aidez, m’aidez, parlez-vous Francais?
