Thank you Jim, I'm not sure how these sidefights work so I guess I'll just keep watching this space!?!

I guess it'll all happen after the survivor thing thats going on?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'm also thinking that opinions regarding this fight are pretty... well, polarized. So when this happens, it might be nice to do a concurrent second choice. Kind of like that Devo/Country sidefight.
But for now, NUR EIN!

Why am I thinking I'd love to hear Puce do Barry White?

Anybody know if the other Barry did a cover of The Girl From Impanema?

You know what I fuckin hate about "manilowfight"? That people keep posting here...and then when I'm done reading up on all the threads... this bastard keeps making me think something meaniful is going on in the sidefight thread.

Like....oh... a title or a due date. You know, something like that.

...uh...carry on with your idolatry of ... well... seriously, Barry's lame.

but ....carry on... go ahead.

Okay, all though I'm one of the NEW! guys, what would be needed to set this thing up?

I have several hours per week free, and if I could help in any way then I'd be more than willing!

(though I'm probably not as PC literate as some people here, so keep the suggestions simple or explain as if you were talking to a deaf dumb and blind two week old rabbit...)

Hiya,

It won't take much to put this together, really. We set a start date and an end date, and a couple extension dates, and then I'll host and post the results.
But we're on hold pending the start of the NUR EIN event that is coming soon. Soon?

Wow, I guess this is a dead topic? America might be a much better choice to cover. Sister Golden Hair, Horse w/No Name, I Need You, The Last Unicorn, You Can Do Magic, Ventura Highway.. Plus I already have the entire collection should people need mp3's. Just a consideration.

Everything seems to be on hold whilst the Nur Ein is on, and I think that only fair as 25 people are doing that, then thats 25 less people for anything like this, there are a multitude of sidefights that could happen...
Pixiesfight,
James Bond Themefight
Buzzcocksfight
etc... etc...

so I guess patience is the key for the moment.

Count me in, fo' sheezy. Question. He did a TON of unoriginal stuff, and does that technically count, I mean, covering a cover? e.g. Bobby Darrin, Johnny Mathis tune that Manilow did, or is this Pure Manilow Bastardization ?

Good question. My advice: if Barry was the one who made the song famous, then it's probably okay.

I'm thinking this is about covering the Manilow phenom, not the songwriter per se. Associations are so strongly tied to the performance, especially so with the Manilow. I mean, there are many covers of All Along the Watch Tower, but I think most people would understand someone "covering" Hendrix's version.

Having grown up during Barry's hey day, I have many (some painful) memories that his catalog evokes. One somewhat sweet one is that the ski hill I learned on in VT played top 40 over these big silver speaker horns on the mountain, so between Manilow and suicide 70s hits like Cake in the Rain, skiing remains a beloved but cursed activity.

That said, I don't think I'll be exorcising him in this venue.

Apparently thankfully, I'm unfamiliar with anything by Manilow.
