What's Your Mic?

It has been postulated in another thread that most of the users here record using the crappy microphone that came with their computer. Could this be true? Inquiring minds want to know.
I would have put this in Help and How To, but my pal JB might have deleted it.

AKG C1000S - (relatively) Affordable mult-purpose condensor. Really good for voice, pretty good on instruments. I can control the sound much better than with my old SM57/58. The pickup patterns allow a lot of useful experimentation with mic placement, angles, etc for different effects.

at present i have two large-diaphragm condensers, both manufactured by MXL, and both costing between
$60-
70. i am in love with these microphones and i fully intend to enlarge my collection of them within the next year.
also i have half a slew of old shure dynamics, but they rarely see the light of day. i have never owned a computer mic in my entire life.

We use the 990 these days as well. We started out with an old shure 55, but it's capsule mounts bit the dust. Well, actually, they turned to dust.

Yeah I have the 990 too and I enjoy it but in my hands its less versatile than the AKG (granted it is a different style mic).

Voted 'Something else' based on accuracy, but a $20 Radio Shack mic hardly qualifies as an improvement.

Neumann U87
Just kidding

The stagg MC07 I use is a copy for a 10th the price.
also SM58 - dented, old but still good
a couple of boundary mics

I use an Audix I-5, which, despite being a dynamic, is serving me quite well.
The instant I can, I'm getting a Rode NT1A.

AKG C3000B is main recording beasty
AKG C1000S as back up for variety
BJAM got the MXL combo box (992/993) for Xmas which she is now using with the large 992 for vocal and the smaller 993 for guitar/instrumentation. Before for most of her solo work she was using the SM58 and Mr Sparkle direct.
Also in the tool box we have the SM58, SM82 and EV 767A.

Nady SP-5 (dynamic, $20 for 3, heh, for general miking of things)

At the moment, it's a pair of AT3035's. I've got a Shure 55sh on the way, but I'm probably gonna shell out for something nicer pretty soon.
Also:
SM58
SM57
Peavey 58 copy
I've got a used Neumann
TLM103 in the store right now that's tempting me pretty bad. The sound gurus there have been talking up Blue mics to me, which I may try. I'd probably start with the Blueberry or above, 'cause I don't fuck 'round.

Snobby snobby gear snob!
Ditto on RG's Oktava though I've used mine on guitars too. Interesting how the poll is shaping up to be pretty lopsided.

i think i was exaggerating a little bit (unless "a slew" equals six?)...
however there is one mic i have which i know i will probably never need,
a Shure SM-58s (same as a regular 58 but with a stupid on/off switch)
it's about fifteen years old but works okay last time i checked. the windscreen is a little dented but if you don't mind, you can have it. if you send me a couple bucks to mail it to you.
