Preference for favourite solid-body electric guitar brand

I vote both. It seems like decent Fenders can often be had for less than decent Gibsons (ignoring the Squire/Epiphone brands) so it might be easier to start out with a Strat or Tele, then get an LP or SG later on.

I would love a real Gibson SG... I've got a epiphone SG but the real thing would be Mmmm. :D

I used to like Strats until I realized Yngwie Malmsteen plays them exclusively.

Okay, i was kidding, I've never liked Strats.

fender seems cooler, but i've never owned an electric.

I am solidly on the Fender side these days but a just world would provide both, along with some others.

all other electric guitars are measured against the stratocaster. jimi played a strat. that is all.

and les pauls are too damned heavy.

i never said he never played a gibson..... :roll:

and if someone wanted to give me a gibson, i'd gladly take it and sing it's virtues..... :)

Just ribin' ya, Jack-be-quick. When I saw Les Paul last, at the songwriter's hall of fame event last year, the guy in the backup band was playing a Strat during the intro as Les walked on stage to join in (even though he had a les Paul there as well!), and Les sent him the same stare that the Italian icedancer gave the other day. But it sounded great.
