I did a cover of one of my favorite video game songs ever.

Links and other hanky panky that doesn't have to do with anything in particular.

Post by Damien Verrett (Jonas) »

It's called Leaving The Body and it's from Chrono Cross, which is my favorite game of all time.

I'm telling you right now that you probably won't know it even if you've played the game. But that's ok because it's awesome.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemus ... dID=513596

It's the only song on there right now so... yeah.

Also, this isn't at all a carbon copy of the original song. If I could I'd link to the original but I can't.

Let me know what you think.

That's pretty well done. I've never heard the original, but this idea could make a pretty awesome sidefight ... covering video game songs ... maybe an idea we could work with.

We could just compile a list of songs, post the originals, and have one person per song ... that way people could find a song that goes along with their musical style and use it.

Probably. We could just prepare it here on this topic and then if there's enough interest, we could start it on the sidefight section.

Yeah cool.

So do we need video game music that's well known or can we just get whatever?

I don't think you would end up with a lot of the same songs. Favourite computer game songs i can think of are:

Monkey Island theme
Treasure Island Dizzy theme
Anything from Half-Life
Xenon 2 Megablast

Okay so I left this topic last night and did some thinking. I figured that a video game cover fight has probably been done already, so I wanted to come up with a way we could use it but still have an awesome original sidefight. At first it looks a bit like Nur Ein, but read on ... I think it's a fair bit different. This idea is still up in the air, and there is lots of room for improvement, but here's my plan.

5-20 fighters sign up
3 Judges
??? number of rounds.

Each round, one video game song is posted, along with an explanation of what the game was about. Each of the fighters has a good listen to it, and writes a song based on the original video game song. They take the explanation of the song, and write lyrics based on it. Just a note - the song and lyrics do not have to be based entirely on the original - one section can be directly based on it, and the rest can just be built on that. At the end, each judge rank each player out of 30. 10 are based on song-writing quality. 10 are based on how well the video game music was utilized, and 10 are based on how well the original video game story was used. Nobody is eliminated in this contest ... points are just added up each week, and the person at the end of the contest with the most is victorious.

Well, that's my plan ... if you like it, tell me, and if you don't like it, tell me what doesn't work and how to change it ... it's really just a weird idea I had in my head and if you have suggestions, they are welcome.

My opinion is that you should wait at least a few weeks until after Nur Ein sidefight simmers down. It's been kinda sidefight after sidefight after sidefight recently. A nice break will entice more people to sign up for this.
Songfighter since back in the day.

Makes sense ... when's Nur Ein done?

Last time there was a video game fight, four songfighters showed up. Might want to come up with something a little less grandiose.

What about simplifying it down to just a videogame song Coverfight? Most sidefights aren't nearly as complicated (or competitive) as Nur Ein. And we haven't had a Coverfight in quite some time now.

That way, people just pick any old videogame song and do a cover of it. Simple, fun, everybody wins.

And I call MegaMan 2. Part of it, anyway.
