No stupid new software tells me what to do. If it can't sort things out for itself, that's not my problem

Having to shut down other processes after installing an app is like having to reboot after installing. Not to mention that both of those are like having to run a dedicated installer program rather than just copying a nice self-contained application off a disk or disk image and into your preferred location.
