has anybody here, ever done any of the 3 long trails in the US.
like the Appalachian , Continetal divide, or the Pacific crest ?

am seriously thinking on taking on the Pacific Crest, next year (hike from the Mexican border to the Canandian border, through California, Oregon, and Washington), just wondering if anybody has done such a thing .

I need to get a mini-fridge in my studio, because the hike to the kitchen is just absurd. I do own a mini-fridge, but it's too loud to keep in here, so I guess I'm screwed either way :(

Roughly the same as walking Melbourne to Rockhampton. Bloody long way.

i've always wanted to do the incan trail. not america, but it'd be pretty sweet. the scenery is gorgeous.

around 5-6 months.. the total milage is around 2,500 miles!
but you'll walk from desert to the high sierra, and through lushy forrest of the north. sounds great to me.

well, it's not in the united states, but yeah, i guess it's in the americaS.

A lot of americans say America as a short for United States of America. When the french say something rude to an american...it's not usualy somebody from Brazil or Mexico.

When I say rude things about Americans - I'm usually referring to Uraguayans. We've never forgiven them for the World Cup qualifiers 5 years ago.

Canada is in North America, but if you ever call me an american, I'll drive your nose cartilage into your brain. Or just politely correct you on your faux-pas. Either/or.

I have dreamed of doing the Appalachian in one go, taking a long subatical to do it. But so far have only hiked a few hundred miles of it in various segments in Maine, Vermont, Mass, NY, Penn, Virginia and Tennessee. The last trip was some 20 years ago, so I guess I'm not making much progress. I did meet quite a few end-to-enders, and like those finishing a marathon, you just salute them and go "wow".

I always said "American" until I moved to Ecuador and then it was not proper because they didn't know if you meant "Norteamericano" or "Sudamericano". They considered themselves American too, and rightfully so. Two continents with that name, I'm not sure how one big country in the middle gets the monopoly on it.

Anyway...having moved to Georgia I am now just hours from the start (or finish, depending on how you look at it) of the Appalachian trail. I would love to hike the AT someday. Most thru-hikers take 3 months to do it. So I would probably have to do what most people do, which is section hike it. I still think it would be amazing. Interestingly, it takes roughly the same amount of time to walk the Appalachian trail as it takes to bicycle from coast to coast.
If you haven't already, you should check out the book "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson which is a funny book about hiking the AT.

There's some very pretty parts within an hour of where I live. Nice thing is that you can pick up bits of it whereever...
