The Song Fight Bulletin Board

Does anybody know of an audio app that's dedicated solely to switching between two audio files, so you can do a direct A/B comparision? Often I find when I'm working on remixing a song, I try to play an older mix and compare it to a newer mix, to see if I've actually improved the mix or not. I want to have both files playing, in synch, and be able to toggle between them with the push of a key or button, but I can't figure out an easy way to do that. Even in my DAW, to switch from one to the other, it would take a couple clicks/button presses. I'm looking for a Mac app, or a simple technique for doing this in any DAW or audio editor... Maybe there is an obvious way to do it that I'm missing?

Doh! Nevermind. If I command-click on the solo button on a track, it works the way I want it to. Still, I have to create a new project in Cubase, import the two mixes into separate tracks, etc. Too complicated for a lazy slacker like me...

i think most people load both mp3s into winamp and click on one and then the other.

Wavelab is good for this as well, you can have multiple two track mixes up and switch between them.

I like to switch between them while they're both playing, though, so I can be listening to one mix and click a button and hear the other one playing from the exact same point. The less time there is between when I'm listening to one mix and when I'm listening to the other the easier it is for me to really hear how they're different.

surely you want like a DJ program....

like Trackion or somthing, cept it aint that and I vant remember wat it is called, but look for a DJ program.

you can run both mixes together and fade in and out between them etc.



EDIT- haha its called Tracktor. Damn I knew it was something like that. Im sure theres plently of others out there tho.
