Comic Book Heroes - Submissions Due 4th July 2007

2007 Update: I'm going to have a go at this again, (basically I'm going to be continuing with my occasional album based on Marvel Heroes next up is The Black Panther) but if anybody wishes to join in then here's TWO months notice, I appreciate that NUR EIN is now on going, but obvously entrants will fall by the wayside (I don't for one moment imagine I'll last too long :) )

Original Update: Okay, is anybody still up for this? I'm doing a Ant-Man/Giant-Man track.
Any Comic Book Hero or Villain, by 4th July, pm me the link etc...
(heroes such as Tarzan, Conan, Doc Savage, which have appeared in Comics are obviously fair game).
Take it as far as your imagination will go, as long as the roots come from the comic book.

Updated as suggested (thanks), below is original post...

Just a thought!

Original Post: I'm aware that there's quite a lot going on at the moment, what with Manilow, Minutemen, Ronecovers etc... but I wouldn't mind having a bash at Hosting a sidefight, and I've been giving it some thought recently, and came up with what to me is a good idea, but I thought I'd put it to the community at large and see what kind of response there was...

...I don't know how many of you are familiar with the 'Icarus' album from the early seventies 'The Marvel World of Icarus' but I was 10 when this came out and it was the first LP I bought (still have it, still love it), and I got to thinking it would be cool to do my own album of comic book related songs, then I thought how about asking those fine and talented chaps and chapess' at SongFight! if they'd like to have a bash.

So the idea is write and record a song about a comic book hero or villan (or even a collection of heroes and villans, whatever!) by a certain time (TBA, if there's enough interest!) and PM the links to me and I'll set about having a go at the whole hosting thing.

Thought over...

Sounds like a good idea to me, I would leave it a week or so 'til after other sidefights are due.

I might suggest a sub-theme - Marvel Vs DC. Artist picks who they want to do, and then do it a bit like the 'Country Vs Devo' coverfight of a while back. Finally answer the age-old question, who's better.

As long as we don't get 20 crappy versions of the Spiderman theme tune. I call Howard the Duck on the Marvel side, or maybe Jimmy Olsen, Cub Reporter, for DC...

I'm definitely in the Marvel camp, always have been. Don't know what I'd do for this fight, but I'll give it some thought.

I like the Marvel vs DC idea, though I too have always been marvel, and i'm reckoning that the sides would be maybe a touch unfair, but like I mentioned I'll let this forum mash out the logistics, as far as covering TV themes are concerned I don't reckon anybody could top the ramones spiderman theme.

I myself would probably lean towards a Sinister Six kind of thing (original six of course), but anythings fair game... there are other comic houses other than Marvel and DC, and it would be nice to see obscure stuff as atlas comics 'planet of the vampires' or e-man or maybe even some of the more bizzare villans...

Howard the Duck is a good call J$ (quack foo, howard for prez, star waughs, etc...)

anyway enough from me for today, I'll see how this progresses.

Take care all.

I'll do a song about the worst comic villain there is, Dan Didio. I already have a song about Supergirl.

This poses a question, would a song by Starfinger about a Marvel villian cause reality to collapse?

If this is held off for a week or two, I'll be in this. Seeing as there is a lot of intrest in Marvel, I will opt for a DC villian.

There's an excellent superbaddy called 'Villian' - who takes the name to teach people how to spell 'Villain' properly - in the son of ambush bug mini-series. Oh, Ambush Bug ... I might have to be doing one of each ...

oh, and DC all the way, suckers ... :)

ok, heres a few more qusetions.

Will we accept only Heroes and Villains from print publications, or webcomic characters too?

characters from only major publications (so characters we could look up fairly easily)?

do the heroes or villains have to be super? Take, for instance, Dick Tracey. Comic book character. But not really considered super.

Hmmm,

I might be in this with either a song about Marvel's Magik or DC's Deathstroke.

I would also like to state that I am a Marvel guy but I cannot deny some of the good storywriting found in DC books such as Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and Death: The High Cost of Living.

I'm a Marvel guy (As stated before), but yeah, Ambush Bug was great. Almost made up for Booster Gold. :P

I'm really open to anybody's interpretation of what constitutes a comic book hero or villain... I would guess Pulp fiction and classic heroes would also be a viable target such as:

Doc Savage
Tarzan
Conan
Sherlock Holmes

the field is vast, and if you've only ever bought or read one comic book then hey there is plenty of stuff thats been on tv or film that is comic book related.

as far as a time line is concerned, originally I was thinking submissions by 4th July (American Independance) and songs posted by 6th July (my Birthday), but I am extremely flexible.

Argh! (yle, heh.) Had worked my shortlist down to Ambush Bug (DC) and the red-skinned sexpot chick who had the hots for Luke in the Star Wars comics (Marvel).

But now that I think about it more, "The Ballad of Cheeks" (DC, Ambush Bug's sidekick) sounds quite tasty. Was always more of a sidekick kinda guy.

I could hear a phunt entry for either Sandman or The Watchmen. I'd really like to hear a lot of people do themesongs for characters from The Watchmen. That could be really cool.

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing.

If it didn't have to be a real comic book hero I could submit "El Balazo." ;)
