imo, all pods/digital effects make your guitar sound like ass, because they contain the cheapest possible ADDA conversion and preamp hardware.
if you can afford decent analog effects, you will get a much better tone.
all that "flexibility" you're getting a POD is a crutch. learn to rock your instrument clean and everything else is gravy.

Don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.
That was a drummer's opinion
I love my POD (v1 though) and Line 6 makes some freakin' great equipment. Sure, it doesn't replace a Gibson Les Paul through a marshal stack for real, but it does give you that 'flexability'. I'm sure that the POD has to be nearly a perfect fit in any money making cover band. I personally like it for it's variety possiblities in my own work.
Whereas I am using mine in a live setting as well...I'm not trying to use it for it's modelling capabilities. Right now I'm using it as an effects unit exclusively. Which it is good for as well. IMO, it's hard to go wrong with one. I'm a little disapointed to find out that mine has a problem with the line/amp switch. It's not sticking on 'amp'..so I have to EQ everything to the line setting.

i know that digital effects are usually less desirable than analog
but
i'm moving into a college dorm this fall... and i just want to have something that will take up very little space, yet give me a lot of effects and let me record. so yeah.

i seem to recall somebody being impressed by guitar sounds from my j-station once upon a time.

All my electric guitar stuff and most of the acoustic guitar stuff is done through a Pod XT. Which probably just proves Blue's point...

I had some blanket statement that was to set the whole blanket story straight under all blanket conditions and in the hands of any blanket operator. Then I realized this post was about music, not bedding...
