The Masterofpuppets presetting is a good place to start and tweak for a distorted rhythm guitar.

I have been drinking and therefore will not be as nice as usual. I'm a really mean drunk. Ask anybody.

1. Use complete sentences. Otherwise you look like an idiot and no one should want to help someone who's not going to understand their help.

2. This is the Internet. There's no excuse for not looking things up for yourself. The Line6 Web site has downloadable user manuals for all their products: Go there. Click "Support" at the top. Look for "User manuals." They will make you register a free account with their Web site before you can download a manual.

3. You get out what you put in. It is fine to ask for clarifying information. However, never say "I don't know how/am not willing to learn" anything, because many of the people who know enough to help you will rightfully say "FUCK YOU" and move on with their lives, as Erik probably did when he read your response. Actually, he's probably preparing a sarcastic remark, and then he'll move on with his life.

Love,

JB

I am drinking coffee and therefore will be nicer than usual. Coffee makes me happy!

6. Be more specific about which piece of gear you are struggling with. Line 6 has several products which might be reasonably referred to as "pod." They probably don't all work exactly the same.

7. Be more specific about what kind of sound you want. Even if we decided that we wanted to help you, "all of it" is just a little bit too general a goal for us to direct you to. A good start would be to say, for example, "I want my rhythm guitar to sound exactly like in that Charcoal song." Actually that is a bad start, because you don't want to sound like those losers, and besides, they have no rhythm. The point remains, though, that you can't really expect a specific answer to a question that is so violently general.

Dude, presetting means it's already in the POD. If you don't have that presetting, that's unfortunate. I'm not going to write down all the settings for you, though. Sorry.

whoops, I think I mean

You don't have the Masterofpuppets preset? Dear god, you might as well be playing your guitar through an electronic Simon. If that's the case, here's the settings you're looking for:

red-red-red-red-blue-blue-red-yellow-yellow*-green-red-red-green-blue-red-green

*add extra yellows here to taste for a beefier sound

i broke up my writing because i think it makes it look more artistic. i'll stop doing that, though.

ok you're right about looking for the manual online. it didn't occur to me, sorry.

i should've been more clear about "not wanting to learn how to do it by computer". i have a pod 2.0 and it was my understanding that i'd need to get a midi to usb cable or some silly thing in order to download presets.

i didn't realize that my question was stupid, and i wasn't trying to get someone to "just come over and do it for me"... i just remembered reading reviews for the pod where people said "i like to use so-and-so settings." i figured maybe people here had settings they always used, or just general guidelines ("try to use a lot of ___ and not a lot of __"), and that it wouldn't be too much trouble to share them. i guess i was wrong about that, and i didn't mean to offend anybody, so i'm sorry about that.

other things:

you are also right that i should've been more specific about the sound i was looking for (which was a weezerish crunchy rhythm). i should also mention that for some reason, on a lot settings i hear a rattling/buzzing noise that i can't seem to fully get rid of, and i was thinking that it was caused by my poor ability to figure out which settings to use.

but anyway, again, sorry to cause such a disturbance in the force. although a couple of you very clearly enjoyed this opportunity to showcase your brilliant biting wit. next time i will be write questions that are more clear, and try to "help you help me", as they say.

And we thank you for it. That's half the fun of the Internet after all. Maybe 2/3 actually.

In any case, in between the biting with there is the answer to your question: where to find the manual, and what preset will give you a good distorted sound. Once you have MASTER OF PUPPETS on your pod, start twiddling dials to see what they do. I don't have a pod, so all I can do is be wittily brilliant and biting.

I got rid of my 2.0 a few years ago and never tried tweeking much with high gain or rock tones. So, I am not particularly helpful at providing details for that style. While none of the details below are quick answers to solve your problem, I thought I would mention some resources that I have found helpful in my POD tweaking adventures.

The Master of Puppet patch is on the PODxt and uses an amp model not available on POD 2.0. That model is the Line 6 Spinal Puppet which is modeled after a hybrid of stock and modded Marshalls (I happen to have the Vetta II and PODxt manuals sitting around). That won't quite match up with any of the 2.0 models, but trying some of the Marshall models or those with similar circuitry might get you in the ball park with some added distortion, etc.

In addition to checking the manuals (and also consider looking for details on the real amps being simulated), the online forums over at Line 6 and Institute of Noise have POD specific forums with archives going back several years. Many people have posed similar questions there in the past (and no doubt will continue to do so).

For some Weezer specific details visit their equipment page. Look for specific amps and effects they mention that might point you in the right direction for finding closer amp and effect models on the POD. Some other sites that might be helpful include guitargeek.com for guitar rig details and this site with sample audio clips from many popular real amps. If the guys over at Line 6 are doing their job well, their models should have the same strengths and weaknesses as the original amps.
