King Arthur has this thread going about War songs. Got me to wondering what other single-subject albums we could come up with from the SF archives. Any ideas?

There are the universals like love, food, etc. but how about sci-fi, or perversions, or fast car songs, doom metal, sappy odes, songs about people only, all way too fast songs, or ambient...who knows the archives best?

Songs about sports. Songs about technology. Songs about religion. Joke songs. Songs about songs. Songs about suicide (yick). Songs about specific places. Songs about work. Songs about how we're all gonna die. Songs that the artist wrote without knowing what it was about (I have several of those).

Songs about buildings

- More than Soup is a layup, so is IDLEggplant
robots
- HInc Happy Machine Ankle
Animals
- HInc Rattle
But maybe there should be a restriction that it can't be in the title.

I think it would be cool to do an epic one-song album with a bunch of fighters adding their bits and pieces, with the grand finale being a huge chorus of everybody singing together.

I suppose this thread is doomed.
I didn't really want to hear what you guys think would be a good idea for a concept album. The idea was more "what common themes are there in existing songfight songs, that could be made into a concept album."
But I guess we don't have the archive knowledge among us to pull that off.
Ah well.

I wouldn't exactly call any of these suggestions concept albums, but thematic ones. Thematic comps. Concept album to me is, you know, The Wall, Tommy, Rush, etc.

Uh, dude, jb's point was that he was asking for specific songs, not general thematic ideas. Thematic ideas are pretty easy to come by.

Isn't every Songfight a potential concept album?

by obscurity
If anybody's interested, my songs Clarice, Violation, Aftermath, Safety in Numbness, Wake were intended as kind of a 'concept ep'.

How about a scheme by which artists could, if they chose, apply tags -- like a blog -- to their songs to be stored in the database so people could search for songs about sex, war, whatever. Have a list to choose from. I know -- there'd be a lot of "other".
Has anybody tried running a search in the lyric archive? You know -- if you want songs about sex, search for "pussy" or "Saturn V Anal Explorer"; you get the picture. I'd do it, but I've been sick...
