LostFight!

Post by c hack »

Deadline: February 28th, 11:59 pm EST.

As we all know, the show Lost has no theme song. This is a problem that must be remedied. So I propose a LostFight. Here are the rules:

Song Restrictions: you must submit a version of the song that's 27-30 seconds long. This is the Short Version. It can be the only version, if you like. You can, at your option, also submit a Long Version, which can be either 55-60 seconds long or 70-75 seconds long (these are based on the times of TV themes I downloaded. If anyone has any specific info on real theme song length restrictions, let me know and I will adjust them accordingly).

The Prizes: The 1st place winner will chose one of these:
The Ultimate Survival Guide
John Locke: A Very Short Introduction (or something similiar)
Firefly (season one) (on DVD-R)

If there are more than 10 entrants, the 2nd place winner will get to chose from the two prizes left over. If there are more than 20 entrants, the 3rd place winner will get the final prize. Winners will be announced on the Wednesday of the season finale, sometime before the show starts. The winners will be chosen by a select panel of judges, which will be comprised of me and my friends. I will, however, make a poll and take that into account.

In addition, I will compile a CD of all the entries that don't suck and send it to the producers of the show (or ABC, or the most appropriate address I can find).

Deadline: [strike]submissions are due by midnight EST on Feb. 08, the Tuesday before the season finale. Here's how it'll work: Tuesday night, no earlier than midnight, I'll compile all the song submissions into a playlist and listen to them. If I don't get around to compiling a playlist until 1:00 and you submit a song a 12:45, then you lucked out. If I've already compiled my playlist at 12:15 and you submit a song at 12:30, then you're fucked. No exceptions, no extensions. [/strike] (hey, how do you do the strike out thing?)

This is getting out of hand. It looks like the first season is a full 20-something episodes. I don't feel like waiting around that long. So the deadline is now the end of February. Get it to me sometime in February, and you're good. Once March rolls around, it's too late.

Submissions: submit by emailing a LINK to lostFight at c-hack dot com. You must provide your own hosting, because I don't have the server space. IF YOU EMAIL AN MP3, YOU'RE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED. If you have no hosting, you can IM me (see the bottom of my posts for my screen name) and transfer the song that way, but other people on Song Fight won't be able to hear it.

All times are EST. If you live somewhere else, do the math and account for it.

Since sometimes theme music to TV shows is just music is this also an allowable concept to this sidefight, which by the way is uber cool. Like, perhaps, a memorable melody hook in the piece to possibly define it as a song. I think I'm in regardless. Awesome show...... and the prizes don't look so bad either.

I haven't even seen this show, but the temptation of a DVD-r of Firefly is enough to say 'hey, johnny, you're in'

Yup, instrumentals are fine. The only restriction on the song is the length (you can even title it whatever you want), and the only thing you'll be judged on is how well it fits as a theme song for the show.

Existing theme songs that I think are perfect:
Dukes of Hazzard
Seinfeld
Airwolf
Different Strokes
All in the Family
Taxi
The Simpsons
Futurama
Cheers
The end song on The Incredible Hulk
The Twilight Zone
Knight Rider
The Jeffersons
Sealab 2021
ATHF
The Powerpuff Girls
Firefly
Cowboy Bebop
the list goes on, but most other themes I hold in bitter contempt.

Of course, none of these would be right for Lost, with the possible exception of The Twilight Zone.

Interesting challenge, to compose an appropriate theme for a show I've nevr seen.

Are multiple submissions allowed?

Yeah - I've never heard of the show - but I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

From what I can tell, we need music that sounds "Lost". Does that sound right?

Do I need more information - or should I just go ahead and work on that brief?

Honestly, you guys:
http://www.google.com/search?q=lost+tv+ ... 8&oe=UTF-8

Also, if you don't get the show where you live:

http://www.suprnova.org/
or
http://www.tvtorrents.net/
which you'll need:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bittorrent/
which I think you can also get here:

Yes, but you can only win once (ie you can't take 2nd and 3rd place).

thanks for the info but - I wasn't being a smartarse, I'm pretty keen to try to write a theme just based on the word "Lost".

I'll do the music first, then check the show info to see if it makes sense

I got no problems with that. I look forward to the result.

Honestly, you guys:
"Lost in the UK

UK TV channel C4 confirmed that Lost have been picked up awhile ago, they announced today it will get a January 2005 premiere"

I agree the Powerpuff Girls is a great theme tune. (both opening and closing credits.) Battlestar Galactica (tos) had a great theme tune as well.

Having nearly caught up with you guys I am of the opinion that the weird underscore that goes with the Lost title is the theme tune, and adding a 'traditional' theme tune would wreck it.
I'm intrigued to hear what you all come up with.

Well, being too sick to sing but not sick enough to stay in bed has its advantages, in that I am done a month early.

Coming in to Land (Lost Theme) - http://www.kongbalong.com/dcm/losttheme.mp3

Hope the fact that it's 50 seconds won't be too much of a penalty. Marvel! at my stodgy midi. Admire! my insane choice of background samples. realise! that I have never seen this show.

Actually, i really like it. We shall see what y'all think. And I have a month to tinker if it's a universal thumbs down, of course :)

Behold the bastard offspring of Airwolf, Knight Rider and Manimal. Seriously though, I like it. It sounds like Sky One at 11 o'clock on a Monday.

Get well soon.

I laughed, I cried, I voted for it before realizing the poll was not yet there.
What was with the kissy raspberry sound near the end?

On reflection, I find the accused to be Judge Judy!

Well, just what are you saying? [/hands on hips]

I'm done. Next?

(ps I know what you're saying, really. Another week for you all to watch Lost and find yourselves unable to imagine it without my great theme lolloping through the background like King kong through the jungle.)
