The Song Fight Bulletin Board

Thought it was very fun. Nothing groundbreaking, but the casting was really nice. Love Williams and van Dyke, especially. Neat story, something happy and mindless.

Pacing was bizarro at times, took forever to actually GET to the museum, and that really should have been Bruce Campbell instead of Owen Wilson (but when is that ever not the case?)

Still, I really liked the end, and the guys letting the air out of the tire had everybody lollin', so I'll give it a B+

We saw this in the theater when it came out (Heather's parents were in town, allowing for a date night) and I really enjoyed it.

Fun & goofy, and now that it's out on dvd, I'm a watch it with a Spencer.

It's a kids movie. Go into with that mindset and it's fun. Otherwise it's WTF... this is sooo stupid.

I just saw it last night. It had it's funny moments. But I don't know why I get so bothered by stupid little things in movies these day.
IE: When he's finally talking to Attila the Hun and the ferro dude speaks Hun, so he has to interprets the first couple of lines, but then when Stiller starts in with his whole, "your heart was broken when Mom and Dad left you in the hut" bit, and with no interpretation, Hun understood everything fine. Also, you can't just tie a bone to a RC truck, tie rubber bands on the the controller and not expect it to go straight into a corner and get stuck there until it runs out of batteries. I bet even the kids watching said, "that retarded". Yeah Yeah, it's just a movie and everything is make believe.....that cost millions to make! Can't they just lie and say he invented a new "fricken laser beam" that won't ever let it get stuck anywhere, ever, and duct tape it to the roof? He's an inventor for Christ sake. Bastards and their lack of care for realism! *serenity now*

But: Doesn't the suspension of disbelief regarding re-animated dinosaur bones not carry over to mongol inflection reception?

Seldom-discussed storytelling philosophy:

Suspension of disbelief implies that a story will remain consistent within itself and true to the rules that it sets up.

When a story fails to live by those rules, the audience falls out of suspension and gets annoyed that the RC truck didn't behave true to the laws of physics as implied by the story.

So, if you're going to make the truck behave contrary to common sense, you need to declare that rule in advance. This is tricky, because the cliche method of doing that sort of thing is very obvious to a modern audience. It's a variation of the "Seemed extraneous at the time" cliche of storytelling.

Yeah, I was gonna say. I'm not worried about an rc car going straight when statues are coming to life.

This movie was fun but nothing more. I'd watch it again if it came on tv on a Saturday afternoon or something.
