The Song Fight Bulletin Board

This is something I put together a while back to quiz my friends.

Ten samples. Name band, song, and (if possible) guitarist.

All have been converted to mono and shitty bitrates, to make it harder to tell how old the song is.

I know only 3 for certain:
1- Lead Zep - Tangerine - Jimmy Page
4- Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf - Tony Iommi
8- Scorpions - Sails Of Charron - Uli Jon Roth

#2 makes me crazy as I know it but can't pin it. A couple of others I know the band/guitarist, and a couple more I'm just stumped. Tough quiz, at least for me!

I would have only gotten two of the three he got and thats it. Although, number 7 sounds like Jethro Tull..and I can't remember the name of their guitarist right now, nor would I know the name of the song. As a matter of fact...I don't believe I've ever even heard the song... it just 'sounds' like them to me.

I believe it is Tull, Martin Barre is the guitar players name. No idea what song, as I am a casual Tull fan at best. I think Deep Purple is in there also. (Richie Blackmore)

1- I agree is Jimmy Page -Tangerine

5- Is Frank Zappa, can't place the song, but I'm pretty sure it's on Freak Out or Absolutely Free

7- Is Definitely Jethro Tull and it's Minstrel in the Gallery off the album with the same name. (I'm a huge fan)

9- I think is the Allman brothers, Duane Allman? Dickie Betts? (sp?)

the others I'm stumped, but wow I love that #8 solo, that's the Scorps?

You people should hide your answers or something, I keep accidentally seeing them.

Er, I guess that's ok, because evidently jeff listens to completely different music than me & I didn't recognize any. Hmm, I know some of the bands mentioned by others... oh well.

#2- my best guess is Eric Clapton, something 80's Clapton

For that matter #9 might be Derek and the Dominoes, but I'm going to say Duane Allman either way.

Ok, I admit one of these was a trick. #10 is "Get The Hell Out of My Way" by Flvxxvm Florvm. Guitarist, me.

The rest are all from major label albums. And all from the 1960's or 1970's (unless I'm wrong about what years the albums came out). Keep a guessin'.

9 is "blue sky" from the allmans. betts and d. allman on guitar.

i also recognized tangerine and sweet leaf, and i'm pretty sure the tull guess was right, but not sure of the song.

also, i think 2 sounds like robert cray but clapton is a good guess too.

#9 is "Torn & Frayed" by the Rolling Stones (Exile on Main St) - guitarist? Keef, I suppose?

(though I do seem to be contradicting Jack and glenny on that - Adjuacator please?)

holy crap, caravan ray is totally right about 9. torn and frayed it is!

#6 sure sounds like Ritchie Blackmore from the Deep Purple days, but I can't put my finger on it. I want to say Highway Star.

#2 keeps making my brain go to Witchy Woman, and I can't get past it.

Whew! Thank You Roymond! That's been driving me crazy, I've been listening to a lot of my Mothers lately trying to find that, not sure why Weasels didn't occur to me. Good call!

Now I'm not so anxious to see the rest of the answers, but still interested.

I just listened to all ten of those, without reading any of the answers in this thread, and I had no idea who any of them were. Seriously. I thought 9 might have been The Grateful Dead.
