Say dudes, I've been browsing the forums looking for some free reverb action to use with Audacity on a Mac, and I am not coming up with a damn thing. I looked for a long time last night too, on Google, and I kept hearing about Freeverb for macs but being completely unable to find an actual link to the mac version of it. Does anyone have it?

Scroll down, and there ya go. Audacity supports AU plugins (.component) files so yer good to go, or should be, at least.
A bunch of other good plugins there, too.
Here's the ultimate free plugin search page where you can search on just AU, or just OSX VST, etc.
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php
Just click on the "effects" link next to "Audio Units". Or I think you can also use VST on OSX platform, Audacity supports that too, I think...not totally sure though.

I think I must be stupid, because I dropped some AU files into the plugins folder in Audacity, and it's not showing them under effects.

Ah you have to upgrade man!
Upgrade to the latest version of Audacity (1.3):
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/downloa ... -1.3-f.php
Also on Mac OS X, Audacity now supports Audio Unit plug-ins.
You drop the components folders or files into your OS HD --> Library --> Audio --> Plug-Ins --> Components folder, Audacity picks them up.
You can still use VST with Audacity too, with this tool. Check out the VST / OSX search on that KVR audio link I posted above, tons of free VST plugins, tons of free AUs, and you can browse the expensive ones too.

I also like the
LFX-1310. It's multi-effects—reverb, compression, eq, delay, filters, distortion, etc. And it's free, of course.
