Back to Windows production on the road

So this morning my backpack and work laptop were stolen. The biggest problem is that my Logic USB software key was taken as well. This is a $1200 loss and I don't expect a quick check from my company's insurance. So the impact is 1) I can't use Logic for a while, therefore current projects are on hold and 2) I'm not bring my Mac to Mexico anymore.
So, I'm back to how to achieve low-cost recording on my Windows work machine? I used to use QBase and liked it for what it was. Problem is my new audio interface is Firewire and IBM T43s have no Firewire. Not sure how to deal with that.
Suggestions? I just want multi track, some soft synths and decent mixing/mastering.

firewire cardbus/pcmcia cards are in the $45 range and work pretty well.

I use an old Dell P3 laptop and got a $15 card off ebay with 3 firewire ports. It works great.
Check if you can get a replacement dongle from Logic or on ebay.

True. I guess there are adapter cables from the standard FW port to the card...

I'm obviously looking for more barriers to progress. Work with me here, Blue...
Uh, thanks, btw. Changing all the locks tomorrow morning. Sucks.

So when you lose the access key that's it? You can't call Apple and get a new one with a serial number? Wow. Have to keep better track of mine.

Yeah, last I checked. I will be contacting them Monday so I'll let you know what they say. Deal is, that key is active and there's no automatic web-enabled back channel activity. So, if they somehow knew what it was, they could install Logic anywhere and start building beats...I start recording Casio tracks.
It's nice that I have Logic installed on three machines and can use any one. But it sucks because of this.
What really sucks is...King Me is coming along nicely

so I'll have to set up the alternative this weekend.
