Over-rated musicians

Who's your favourite? Mine's Jimi Hendrix. I don't mind the notes he plays, though they're not fantastic, but his guitar/amp tone really irritates me.

Oh wow. Another competition of opinion.
Guess what. I've erased about ten insults directed at you already. Tempt me.

Your favorite artist sucks.

Des sucks. Over-rated. Totally, and he's rude too.
I'm drunk. And there ain't nothing over-rated about that.

Ahem...
I think you'll find it was an Australian who invented the wobble board.
Rolf Harris gets no respect nowdays

Hah, slayer, you gotta be twisting my melon man.

You forget that fundamentally, (polite) British are
ashamed as our primary national characteristic. We're almost more uncomfortable with national pride than Germans are.
I've only heard of couple of Early Beatles songs, when they had that other guitarist. Covers of American songs, if I remember right. Yeah. Not that good either.
As for competition of opinion, sure, if you like, Leaf. It's a competition I want to lose. All I'm hearing is bad amp, so I'm not looking for the right things. Tell me how my opinion is uninformed or wrong, and I'll learn something. Getting NOT flamed for challenging an orthodoxy is boring.
Also that's pretty lazy. Were your insults too lame to actually hit me with?

I just deleted 300 witty comments.

I don't know who you're hanging around with, but that doesn't describe anyone I know. Personally, I'm proud to be English, I think as a nation we're a damned fine bunch of folks.

No.
They were too mean.
Looking for the right things? How can I tell you that? You do what you want, think what you want... I don't care to change your opinion, but I'll express mine.
You are the person who titled a thread "over-rated musician" and then started trashing Hendrix because you don't like his gear and seem to think appreciation of music or talent rests in equipment. What I get out of what you posted, is that you are clearly not a person who appreciates or feels music at this point in time. You're looking for a written explanation? Elightenment? Get out of your ego, and listen to music without competing with it.
You "like some of the notes he plays"? Wow. I like some of the letters you used in your post, but frankly, all I see is a shitty keyboard with too many coffee spills on it.
Retarded.

Leaf, dude, relaaaaaaax. Remember, overrated does not mean bad, and besides, the guy's not a Hendrix fan-- so what? No reason to totally go off on him like that. Everyone's taste is different. There are probably billions of people in the world that don't like Hendrix.
On the other hand, I can't imagine why someone would think that "Hey, you know what, I don't care for Jimi Hendrix" would make a great conversation starter. But what do I know?

Kurt Cobain was overrated as a guitarist.
Bob Dylan leaves me completely cold.
I hate the dude from the Decemberist's voice.
I have no idea what the big deal is about Arcade Fire.
BB King bores me to tears.

I think The Beatles themselves were over rated.
They are one of my favorite bands and I've seen Paul McCartney twice in concert. Still think there was a bit too much hype.
I ALWAYS thought Nirvana was over rated. There were a lot better bands coming out of Seattle those same few years and it was just a matter of good timing in my opinion. Killing himself was his best career move. I don't mean that maliciously, I mean that it made him a martyr avoiding whatever crash and burn he would have probably encountered. (THIS IS ONLY AN OPINION and I DO NOT ADVOCATE SUICIDE nor do I wish bad things upon people)

Wow, I totally agree. A friend of mine loaned me their CD and I thought the music was good but this guy totally ruined it for me. Actually this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the first post.

And Eric Clapton. My god. Writes one song and arranges it a thousand non-discernible ways. (THIS IS ONLY AN OPINION and I DO NOT ADVOCATE ERIC CLAPTON BASHING...oh, wait a minute...)

Yes yes yes. YES.
Also, all the cheesy-dance-loop-bands that hipsters are frothing at the mouth over (LCD Soundsystem, The Knife, etc...); the musicianship on display is embarrassing at best.

Note that I meant Cobain as a guitarist. I love Nirvana.
