Welcome to Nur Ein: Round Zero

This is an open round of the Nur Ein to determine the 25 entrants into the big battle. This round will appear only on the forum and will not appear on the Nur Ein website.

Title: "Let Me In"
Due Date: May 2nd at 1PM EST
Non-optional Challenge: Unconventional Percussion
Send a link to your completed song to nurein.sidefight@gmail.com

Make your percussion acoustically with things that aren't usually used for percussion. Put away your drums, tambourines, cymbals, triangles, cowbell, etc. and remember we did the hand claps thing last year.

There will be no immunity granted to the creator of the top song of this round.

You can't bang a gong but still let's get it on. Nur Ein!

Clarification- There can be conventional percussion in the song but there has to be some significant use of non-conventional percussion.

Thanks Luke for the catch on that one.

OK, so I can rock the song right and do a cool unconventional percussion bridge or something of that nature, right?

What, like hand farts, explosions, competently played maracas?

I'm joking. Good challenge!

Looks like it's time to take the tape recorder to work, heh.

Nur Ein!

Yes.

And RG, if you can rock real explosions, this judge may be swayed.

Is beat-boxing "nonconventional" enough?

How about box-beating?

I think the "real" drummers here have a significant advantage with this one, but it hardly matters because the bar is still so goddamned low at this point.

Part of the challenge of Nur Ein is to be creative and work with what we give you. Don't ask us if "banging your head against a brick wall at 97bpm" would be okay. Use your song to convince us that it is. Present a good argument, in song, that whatever you did meets the challenge.

Future challenges will (probably) be harder, but the same theory applies.

I think I understand the intent, but the language bothers me. Handclaps and stomping and beatboxing have become plenty conventional. Justin Timberlake beatboxed on a song. Beatles were throwing handclaps around forty-five years ago. I don't mean to complain.

So go out there and dazzle us with your innovations. Creativity is a big plus. :)
