Welcome to Thursday! I will have a lot of catching up to do at work today, what fun. Not much to report this morning. I'm sure I'll have more to say later.

What was your first real paying (pay check with tax deductions, etc) job? How old were you?

My first job was at the one movie theater in town - it was the cool job to have in Simi Valley at the time. I was 16 or maybe 17. I made 10 cents above minimum wage, so I thought I had it made! I used to have so much fun at that place! I kept that job through high school and part of college - worked my way up to assistant manager - wow!

I got a good headache this morning, and it's gonna get worse. I was out until 2am at the open mic. I got about 3.5hrs sleep. At 8:30am I have a dentist appointment I had forgotten about. Ow. So, no coffee this morning (out of courtesy for the dentist), but I'll stop for a cup on the way back to work.

The open mic went well though. I had a full list of players by about 10pm, which doesn't happen often. Tonight is rest and recuperation.

My first job was three weekends of washing dishes at a restaurant called The Trolley Car. It was at the start of summer vacation following my Freshman year in high school. Three shifts convinced me that working was for chumps, and that I wouldn't be doing it again until forced to. A few years after that I rejoined the work force, but it was a good long run, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

At my end of town - Thursday has just finished. What can I say. It was a Thursday.

I donated blood this morning. It cool - you get to lie down for half an hour in he middle of the day when you should be at work, AND get a free cup of tea! With biscuits! And besides - it has aways been by strict policy to be as generous as I can with my bodily fluids (...hello ladies  ).

Then I spent the rest of the day trying to determine if wallabys are afraid of the dark (that is - the medium-sized macropod type - not George Gregan and co.). I am designing a tunnel under an 8-lane highway so that native fauna can get from one side to the other - but do you put lights in it to keep the roos etc. happy, or leave it dark to keep the nocturnal animals like koalas happy?

Generally I'm in favour of leaning towards the kangaroos - because let's face it - I really can't see a koala bothering to cross the road anyway. All they do is sit around in trees scratching their fluffy arses. Those lazy little fuckers don't want to be crossing any roads - not when there is arse-scratching to do. But then again - kangaroos have a brain the size of a pea. I really don't think they could give a flying toss if the lights are on or not.

I'd like to eat a koala. They would be meaty - but probably have a eucalyptus-y flavour. You could probably eat a whole koala - and your breath would be left with a minty-freshness like you've just brushed your teeth. And clear your sinuses. Don't tell me that wouldn't be a taste sensation. I've got a video somewhere of a koala scratching its arse. Bloody hilarious. Gets his little claw right up there!. I must remember to post it here one day. Stupid animals....

Caravan Ray's insightful commentaries!

My first job was closer guy at the bakery at TOPS supermarket in my hometown. I wasn't old enough to run the bread slicer machine. Whenever somebody asked I had to get the deli ladies. Every once in a while I had to decorate a cake for somebody... do you really think a 16-year-old kid is the right person to decorate your cake? Heh, oh well. I got the job so I could pay my way to Spain on our Spanish class trip.

Draggin' a bit today (got to bed at 11:00 last night; I didn't realize there was an 11 pm, too!). Finished laying tracks and doing a rough mix of that "Grey Rainbow" song this morning, and that's probably as far as I'll go with it. Thursday morning and still no grand ideas for "Paris," so another week will go by with no KA entry. How'm I ever gonna catch j$ at this rate???

Several "mom" things today - pool class, lunch, haircut in the afternoon and an MRI this evening, so that's mostly what my day will be about.

MK: cooking class is (was, since last night was the last meeting) sort of a typical community college class, aimed more at going to cullinary school than making dinner every night at home. Each week, we'd focus on some part of the kitchen brigade - baking, salads, soups, meats, etc. - and each of the six kitchen groups in class would make something different, that we'd share around at the end.

Watched the Idol results this morning, glad to see Jordin Sparks doing well. I suppose this happens all over, but the local Fox station has held a big "Arizona Idol" competition each year, and the winner gets a guarantee they'll get to audition for RP&S. None of the four previous Arizona Idols have made it past the first round in Hollywood, but Jordin is very good... they announced that they're starting a "band" competition, which might just help out with the biggest problem with Idol: all the old music that doesn't really matter anymore. I was hoping Chris Sligh would do better, I thought he was at least trying to drag the show into the 1990's, musically...

QOTD: First real job was working at a library (Castro Valley, CA), half time, civil service thing. I was 20 at the time (I was a very late bloomer from very early on), and I did that for three or four years 'til I got a job with the State Department of Health in Berkeley and moved out. One of my jobs at the library was shelving some of the children's books ("juvie fiction," they called it, which always seemed a little disrespectful to me). I think it took me a couple years to work up the courage to read "Are You There, God, It's Me Margaret" and I still felt funny a few years back buying a copy of "Forever" at a rummage sale... Heather will know who I'm talkin' about.

I've definitely been enjoying the Roll Call thread, that's usually the first forum I check each day (though if I had a song up this week or was doing nur ein, I suppose I'd check on that first). It's sorta strange starting off the day talking about what I have planned and then, for the most part, not checking back in to say what I actually got done, but a nice kinda strange. I think I'll keep doin' it that way...

My first paying job was an internship with IBM. That's right. I started off big.

My day today....abysmal. Had a big meeting first thing in the morning and my teammate decided to trash me in the meeting. This is a person who I've helped out so many times. I even made the programs for her stepmom's funeral and she trashes me in the meeting. Someone just made an enemy.

At least, today I had Nur Ein tunes to listen to.

That solution would do nothing but enforce uneccesary financial burden on industry without providing any real benefits to the environment. In short - it would cost a lot of money - and it wouldn't work.

It's perfect!

Yeah - sounds like one of my first jobs - collecting carcasses from the abattoir for the local butcher.

One more workday in the books.

My first job was bagging groceries at the local Grocery Store. I started that job when I was 15 and had it for a year and a half. They fired me. They said it was for some graffitti (the messege on the wall was TO me...not FROM me...) but I think they just wanted to get rid of me. I had gone through some 'changes'. (think about it... 15 - 17 1/2)

However, I still like punk rock.

Lights that are on solar recharged batteries and motion sensors, so they only come on when a roo approaches the tunnel. Done.
.....next caller, you're on the air. What can I do you for.

Actually, I just had a funny vision of why this is a bad idea. A little wallaby goes through the wrong tunnel because they're both dark, then when the little wallaby is about half way through the tunnel, and a roo approaches and clicks the motion sensor and the lights come on. The Wallaby will piss his pelt and probably have a tiny little heart attack. Then the roo will hop up to him, look down at the Wally and say, you pooped yourself mate. Then a little baby roo will pop his head out of the pouch and say, eeewie, you stick, yeah? Then the Wally will look up at the roo's like this >> and say, bugger off ya bloody barstids.

OK, story time is over.

Burger King @ 15! Too young to cook! I could only assemble! and mop.....
Three twenty five? Sounds right.

Had a frantic morning of Nur Einism, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

Also, had a great show on the big Spy Vs. Pie Popcast. We're nearing 100 shows! I am pretty proud. That is a lot of jokes, man.

I get to make a truck look fancy tonight, print some stickes and also print some other stickers. Not too shab, really.

I am burping Pineapple Faygo.

I am excited to go home and watch Survivor while playing Age of Empires DS. I just wish my lovely lady was gonna be around.

SIGH!

Garbage day today!

Went Mother's Day shopping last night. Being the eldest of three children it is up to me to organise presents. So Mum is getting the Happy Feet DVD and some silk pj's (she has to wear silk. Mum and Dad got a waterbed a short while back. With flannelette pj's Mum can't escape the clutches of the waterbed. The flannelette just grips to the other sheets too well. Silk just slides out. I can't see them getting silk sheets, Dad would never have that, he's not some fucking gay!). So thats another round of being older brother completed, move on the stage 2, Legs' Fathers 50th.

I downloaded all the Nur Ein entries, and have popped them on the 'ol pod. Listen to them on the way home and softly cry to myself as it is again proven that I am not very good.

Looks to be a fairly calm and easy day at work ahead. Forest & Timber is basically done (the bosses boss is just having a look) and I just have a lot of little things to do. Leftover hamburger for lunch, too. Yum!

I baked a cake for my US History class today, with "Atchison: The Best President Ever" on. Nobody laughed because my class is full of over-achievers that glare at me if I make a joke or sarcastic comment. Well they can't bake, so they can go shove their Hawley-Smoot tarrif where the sun does not shine!

Gossiped in art(friend slept with friend's boyfriend, but they used to go out, and oh my god drama) and finished up some prints, then went to singing class and sang songs. Good times.

Had dinner, watched part one of the Jeopardy college final, watched some Ugly Betty, then went out with the guy I'm going to prom with. Now I'm gonna study for a test on Pride and Prejudice(mmm, Darcy), then watch Letterman(Jack Hanna's on :D).

As for my first job? I'm a dirty immigrant, so I have no SS#, thus cannot work. I do babysit though :/ (I also get to have a physical on Saturday for my green card. I'll finally find out if I have syphilis and/or HIV!)

So today was Spencer's kindergarten round up. He is 4 1/2 with a birthday past the cut off, and this is 4 year old kindergarten, so he is for sure going to be the oldest in the class. This seems to have pros and cons. He is really smart, counts to 100 (when the numbers in the classroom only went up to 20), writes his name and all letters of the alphabet well, has an incredible vocabulary, etc. I'm worried that he may be bored and won't learn anything new, so I guess that's a con. On the other hand, since he's never been in day care, he hasn't had the social interactions that some kids his age have had, so it would be a pro for him to make new friends and have a practice run at what it's like to be in school before he does all day kindergarten.

He's been excited to go to see his school for weeks. As soon as we got there, he switched into cry-y super emotional grump mode. He wouldn't write his name on his name tag, he didn't want to sing "The Wheels on the Bus" (my guess is because it wasn't rockin' enough) and he covered his ears during the school song. When it came time for the tour of the kindergarten, he was dragging his feet, would go up the stairs but not down and didn't want to leave the library or the computer lab.

As soon as we got to his classroom and there were other kids playing, he was fine. He built a huge block tower with the 7 year old big brother of a kid who will be in his class. He played and played, but when all the other kids had left and Teacher Marilyn wanted to go home, he flipped back into cry-y mode again.

Oh woe is me! :?

Also, I am really behind at work thanks to "Spirit Week" and the billion meetings I've had to go to. Tomorrow is our company picnic so I only have from 7:30 - noon to get some shit done.

Talk at you all tomorrow!

Thanks! I was actually thinking about that president for a day story last week but could not remember his name and forgot to look it up. That was one of the "facts" in a big book of facts I had as a kid and it crossed my mind the other day that it was probably wrong and that I could now easily find more of the details behind that claim with this whole internet thing.

Um, since I'm posting here...McDonald's at 17 (summer before and first semester of my senior year and then six weeks the following summer before heading off to college). I basically did not sleep last night while trying to finish off my Nur Ein recording. And now it is midnight and I am wondering why I have not yet gone to bed.
