Good morning and TGIF! I woke up with a headache today. Last night I had one scotch ale and now I have a tiny hangover... am I getting that old? On the plus side, it's bagel Friday at work, but I better get up there before 8 am because last week the bagels were gone by the time I got there and I was stuck with a blueberry muffin - not a horrible consolation prize I suppose.

I was going to take the bus to work today, but Phil called me at 4:30 1) to tell me he was on his way home and 2) to talk me out of taking the bus, and in to sleeping an extra hour. My arm hurts from the twisting.

Tonight we're going to see the Kings of Leon at First Avenue. We have babysitter arrangements with Phil's parents and everything. It's gonna be fun, an actual date.

When you enter SongFight and you're sizing up the competition when the songs go up, who makes you say "oh crap, I lost this round" before you've even listened?

Well, the obvious answer is MC Frontalot, but since he only enters every once in a while, I'm gonna have to say Melvin. It used to be Josh Woodward, but he's gone! According to Plat's handy dandy tool it looks like I really need to be afraid of Pompeii and the Def Author!

Have a good day!

Up at 5 and writing lyrics. I got the Nur Ein done around 7:15, burned it to disc, and drove to work. Listened on car speakers, listened on computer speakers. There's a lot I wish I had time to do with it, but it's officially Good Enough. Submitted.

No show tonight, a rarity on a Friday these days. Maybe I can write something for an actual SongFight!, since we're now in the Nur Ein Gap. It's been a while.

But to answer the question of the day, if I DO submit a song for this fight, and I see that The Hell Yeahs are in there, I know I'm in trouble.

It's a Nur Ein day so I'm happy. Every 8 days, I get a mailbox full of new songs to enjoy. And already I'm enjoying this round more than the last. One of the songs made me say "Oh, you dirty son of bitch". That's a good thing. And one almost had me on the floor laughing. And I don't even have all the songs yet!

Other than that, the day is pretty lackluster. I've gotta do all sorts of stuff to prep for my two trips next month. And I have to do all sorts of computer training stuff. Nothing too exciting.

I never come into the fight thinking I'm going to win because g^2 is such a niche product. But having Glenn Case or the Hell Yeahs or Pompeii around doesn't help matters.

When we finished recording "Skyline", we were on cloud nine. We knew we had a winner. When the songs came out, we quickly scanned the list to see who we were up against. Our hopes sunk when we saw the name "Kompressor" on the list. However, we gave it a listen, and quickly came to the conclusion that our song was better, so we once again became confident.

Kompressor won.

Duh.

That's pretty much my reaction any time I see "King Arthur" on the list.

Umm, Friday, cleaning day, it's going pretty fast. Possible trip to Fry's Electronics for a one-day sale, though they've already been open for half an hour, so most of the good stuff will be gone. Just got a phone call, we have a meet and greet with a possible adopter for foster dog Ben on Sunday afternoon. Also thinking of a trip to the library today, assuming I can find all the books I have checked out (hooray for library websites where you can go find out what you have and when it's due).

when I wrote Gonna Be Your Man and recorded it I thought I had made something pretty special, then blue and ken beefed it up, then mc frontalot was in the same fight. same thing happened with Moscow Idaho except he'd entered the other fight that week, and so then dumb redcar won.

My "Brownie Points" is done and in
It was hard to sing the chorus
Should have used a different time sig
What's done is done
For better or worse
Could have used one more day
Famous last words
Natural born procrastinator
It was fun to play
But could have used more flare
Oh well

I really don't care if I win on song fight anymore
It always comes down to friend flooding, so I gave up
That's why I like Nur Ein
It's Judged by our peers
It sucks to see a poorly recorded and delivered rap song win
Although I do love it when a truly deserving song wins
I look so forward to my competition and hearing the songs, that I have never said, "oh no, so and so is in this fight".
My first ever fight here, I friend flooded.
It was an empty victory
The day I can't be respected for my musical efforts, is the day I stop.
...stop sharing, not stop playing, of course.

Although I have a lot of favorites here at The SF. I will say that Melvin is a force to be reckoned with.
Even though he sounds a little too much like Weezer, he is always trying new things and is a great song writer and composer. I'd love to see him come into his own sound, and I think he will.

Live, Love, Rock!

It was MC Frontalot's real-life alter-ego who made the quip: "Whenever you count on winning, you wind up angry at Octothorpe."
