Bryan Kandel, I think your last minute farewell song may have moved you right up to the top of the heap. I was laughing. Great G&G.

Halfway through Round 0 my comp dies so I shell out nearly a grand on the spot. Halfway through Round 2 my new comp does a reprise, turns out they sold me a faulty motherboard, thanks Compaq. And it happens on the one time probably in my whole life where time sig changes are obligatory.
To say I am pissed would be missing the mark somewhat. I would like to publicly apologise to Melvin for letting the side down, and I hope we will be back next year to beat your asses with a frying pan.
Now I need to go and burn something....

I'm sorry to hear that Furry. I was really looking forward to a Furry Melvin this week.

I think my top 3 are Jim, Frankie, and Thank Glennny.
Jim, you are a funky white boy. Who did your drums?
(Steve, you had some nice drumming in your song, too.)
Bryan, your entry made me laugh. Way to stay in the game, in spite of real life interfering.
Glennny, awesome bridge/solo.
Pedro, that sucks. I hope your computer woes get resolved positively.

Wow, thanks Lunkhead! Those drums are me playing my Roland V-Kit.

Patch 95 is labeled POWER, so I went with that.

Tex! I love your song! What's funny is it reminds me of Jethro Tull (one my favorite yet uncool bands)
I'm not kidding, this is VERY Jethro Tull!

Puce, your song is awesome and I haven't even listened to it yet. Commentary on those unimmune shall follow at a later date.

He let his beard grow out and he stood on one leg while he played his guitar for this song.

I knew there was a reason this time signature changing stuff was making me feel very uncomfortable.
BTW: I used 3/4 and 4/4. They are the only ones I understand. I speed up a few time too. Does that count?

This is the first I've listened to my entry since my final 3am mix this morning.

Great songs everyone! I'm still really bummed out about BL/BR, I thought this one belonged to them. So I think we should make the cut, but again I'm way too close to our song to be objective about it. So this is how I like the rest:
1. Bovine Recyclery- great changes, great melody , fun, wonderful song!
1. Frankie Big Face - This is sooooo "Dig Everything" Bowie
1. Merisan- translation please. Beautiful singing and beautiful guitar!!!!!
4. Tex - If Ian Anderson was Australian.....
5. Be Wells- Beautiful intimate breathy Elliot Smithy!
5. Paco Del Stinko- Stink rules!
5. Puce - I think this has the best riff of the fight in it despite the lyrics (we were warned). Why the Ah Ha bit?
5. Steve Durand- love it!
9. Jim Tyrell
9. sp00ns
9. Ross Durand
9. Wreckdom
13. Jolly Roger
13. Abominominous
15. BLT- This one just misses it a bit for me.
16. BK- Huge disappointment, other entries were great! I'd much rather hear nonsense, "yeah yeahs" , scatting, no vocals, anything other than " I'm playing guitar right now and it's recording".

Top 15 as I see it:
1. Wreckdom
2. Glenny/Frisbee
3. Bovine Recyclery - for a skinny bastard, you seem to have an unnatural obsession with food
4. Frankie Big Face
5. Merisan
6. Be Wells
7. Steve Durand
8. Paco Del Stinko
9. Jim Tyrell
10. Puce
11. Ross Durand
12. Jolly Roger
13. Abominominous - not my cup of tea
14. BK - for a throwaway song - that was pretty damn good. I think we need to hear more from you
15. TB&TDH
BLT - I loved the start of your song, I thought you were a winner - but that chorus totally killed it.
Spoons - some greats sounds there, but too much...too, too much

From yours and Glenny's review, it looks like I'm hitt'n the bricks on this one. It's a shame that the chorus killed such a rock'n tune. That high b/u vocal is the deal killer, and I didn't even catch it as I was mixing down, as well as a few other things. Sleeping Family and a 3am headphone mix. I've already remixed it, but what's the use now. I F**cked up my chances to be Nur Ein. 8)
What are the chances of doing a few odd jobs for an immunity? I'm pretty good with a bow staff, a great cook and handy with the art work.

Dang Pedro, no need to apologize. Though I'd like to send Compaq a letter bomb. Well, for what's it worth, we still have my half of the round two entry, so maybe we'll finish 'er up when you get your computer fixed and post it somewhere for posterity anyway.
Good luck to the remaining artistes!

Here is how I would rank them.
I enjoyed these:
BeWells
Bovine Recyclery
Frankie Big Face
Ross Durand
These were reasonable:
Thanks Glennny For The Frisbee
Jim Tyrell
Tex Beaumont & TDH
Puce
Jolly Roger
These were passable:
Paco Del Stinko
Bryan Kandel
Merisan (the music was very nice but you almost fell into my bottom group because I don't know what the heck you were saying)
These I really did not enjoy:
Wreckdom
Cynthia Size and Sp00ns
Abominominous
Billy's Little Trip (your chorus was an absolute mess, sorry)

What can I say, I screwed up. But I couldn't be grouped with a better bunch of guys.
By the way, just so everyone knows what happened.
I have a limited time that I can scream into a mic, so I will record multiple vocal ranges that I can later choose from for my final mix. By accident, I unchecked them all on the final export mix and I didn't hear it until my entry had been sent and posted, when I got home today. Needless to say, I was sick to my stomach. If you listen, you'll hear like 8 vocal tracks in the chorus. They weren't meant to play all together.
Not trying to make excuses, but I just wanted you guys to know, as I get the ax. I had fun while it lasted though, and everyone did a great job this week. Que Sera Sera.

The song's about having and abusing immunity, so I had to include or reference all the things that are generally considered bad form in the SongFight community. The kind of things someone with their eyes on the prize wouldn't do. These include writing a song about songwriting, writing about the competition itself (
high-five BK), eschewing the standard song structure, playing out of tune, unwarranted hard-profanity, humming instead of coming up with real lyrics, frequent time-signature changes (of course), and taking a long sample from a well known song.
But why the pitch-shifting
Take On Me specifically? Well, that's something I don't mind spelling out, because I realize that no one with a postcount of less than a thousand could be reasonably expected to get the reference. Check out the Jim Varney All Stars'
Is It Cold. The original song was a test to see just how much of a piss you could take before the admin (there was only one admin at the time) deletes your song. Also, you're very lucky I didn't go with my first impulse and end my song the same way.
This is the first song in a long time that--aside from some minor mix quibbles--I'm completely happy with, but I realize I have NO idea how it will be received. Niv was right though, my last song was sooo safe; I just had to take this one the complete opposite direction.
Ordinal rankings to come, once I stop treating this thread like my personal blog.

Ok, I was apparently listening to your song as you posted. I still don't get exactly why that reference is pertinent unless your song is a test. In which case it deserves to be last - which it doesn't.
You say this is the first song in a long time you're satisfied with (or something to that effect). Just for the record, "Welcome to (the New Crusade)" Is one of my all-time favorite songfight songs.
Just saying.
Looking forward to another workaday skirmish someday.
Peace, Puce,
Ross
