I can't be the only one who wants to use one this week. Help me out Cubase users! Maybe one of the Waves plugs?

I know this is more complicated than what you're looking for, but Reason has one. You'd have to record your modifier audio then import it as a sample into Reason, though, to use it with the vocoder to modify the signal/source audio. (I can't remember the proper terms for the two sources in a vocoder at the moment, sorry.)

You likely already know about the MDA Vocoder:

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/803.html

It's supposedly the precursor to the "Cubase Vocoder", but I don't recall seeing a vocoder plug-in included with Cubase (at least not SX 3). I'll double check though.

EDIT: I was wrong! It's there under "Other". I guess I never looked for it before.

EDIT 2: The included one is pretty easy to use. For those of you like me who have Cubase but had never used its vocoder before, you add the vocoder plug-in as a send/insert to your vocal track, then set up a MIDI track to control the vocoder plug-in, and play the notes you want on your MIDI keyboard. Fun!

I'm not sure what you're asking Ken? I have the vocoder VST, but I've never used it in a song. But I've played with it.

There are a couple that I have used, but I'd have to check at home. Er, yes, I have used the MDA one I think. I believe there is one better but I don't have it here - if you need it PM me tonight and I'll get the name for you.

I have used mda Talkbox on my Elastic Waste Band songs.

It is free, easy to use, and works pretty good.

On second thought I'm not seeing anything else here. I could have sworn I used something else, but I guess it isn't a VST.

I suppose it's a bit late to matter, but I have found nothing better than the Orange Vocoder. Except Reason's, which IS a bit complicated to put to use.

Ken, your Micron's got some vocoders in it, and instructions for rolling yer own too.

Though this post is far too late for the intended purpose, I suspect.

Go hardware!

What the heck is the vocoder for anyway? After first posting in this thread, I went to play around with it. Most of the pre sets don't seem to do anything. Then again, I gave it all of about 30 seconds of my time, lol.

BLT, are you using the one that's included with Cubase? And you've got a MIDI track that's outputing to the vocoder plug-in? And you've got an audio track with the vocoder as an insert? What are you using for the audio and the MIDI content? For a sample, I just recorded a loop of myself singing in a monotone some drawn out words, then I played some chords on my MIDI keyboard. That produced seemed to produce the classic vocoded "talking synth" kind of sound. I think I used a preset with "telephone" in the name, maybe a few down from the top.

I'll post one tomorrow, and a screenshot.
