Only 90 minutes into the day and I already have a bad ass story.
I had friends over tonight and everything was fine. The final friend went home at like 11:20. The parents and I were standing in the kitchen, at 11:25, and I had just taken a sip of Pepsi. It went down my wind pipe(the 'wrong' tube) and I started coughing. Well, I have this whole vasovagal syncope thing. Next thing I know I was lying on the kitchen floor and holy hell my head hurt. Turns out, I started coughing, all the color drained from my face, I went limp, fell backwards, fell into some shelves, then against the trashcan, then hit the back of my head on the edge of the kitchen cabinet.
I came back around about 10 seconds after I hit my head, and I think I was rambling about how I hadn't taken any drugs and that I didn't want the hospital to shave my head. We headed off to the hospital, got admitted, got a CAT scan, got to ride in a wheelchair for the first time, got discharged after the scan came back clear. It hurts like hell and I've got a huuuge lump on the back of my head. So basically, way to go Pepsi for trying to choke me and in turn knock me out.
The real kicker? Today is my parents 23rd anniversary and I totally ruined their night.
QOTD: Any fun ER/hospital experiences?

Yikes! This wasn't
Ice Cucumber Pepsi by chance, was it? I knew it sounded like trouble...
No ER/hospital experiences here thankfully.

BJam: I'll see Plat's "yikes!" and raise him a "youch!".
My day is just starting, so I might as well post. I'm still in Nur Ein, but I've been struggling with an epic case of writer's block ever since the second round, and I think it may have finally gotten the best of me. I managed to sputter out some lyrics / vocals a few hours ago, then took a much-needed Mythbusters break (Kari Byron would have been my inappropriate crush on
the 13th). Now I have 8 hours to guitar-it-up and submit, and I need to do it all without waking my neighbor. It's gonna be a fun night.
QotD: Nowhere near as impressive as Bjam's story, but I broke my arm playing paintball (I took a heroic dive). I didn't even realize it was broken until four hours later in the middle of a bridal shower when I noticed my hand was f'n huge. Like an Xbox. So, I went to the ER, flashed my socialist CareCard (because it's Canada), waited for four more hours (because it's Canada), then got treated. So, I broke it at 4pm, and I walked out of the hospital with a shiny new cast at 1am. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I love Canada's system. That would cost 2500 bux here in the States, and the wait would be the same, considering the piantball and shower.
Also, I'm in the Nur Ein stress boat
I have a nice song
Love song
I over did it
Cutting it down
I hate how I think
I'm so fucking complicated
Yet so retarded
I'm so fucking simple minded
Yet, still retarded
All my muse asks is that I give it justice
And I do my best
But it's not enough
or too much
Why never perfect?
My day hasn't started yet
Still ending the last one
QOTD:
I drank bleach when I was 4
Rushed to the hostel
Still to this day wont go to the hospital...
...conscious
Doctors = Aliens
hospitals = Spaceships
anal probes = Anal Probes
Need rest
See you tomorrow, errr, later today.

It's a Nur Ein day and it looks like it's gonna be totally 80's day here at the house.
QotD: It was Valentine's Day a few years back. I decided on my lunch break to go down to the local Barnes & Noble. On my way there, I trip in a pothole in the middle of the street. I still have no clue how I made it to the meridian but I busted up my ankle. Two bystanders helped me by calling an ambulance and I was taken to the ER and that's where I would spend most of my Valentine's Day that year.

nivious, suck. But that really is only slightly worse than my valentines day any given year.
Today is nice, I forgot I had to borrown money from a pay day advance place and deposit it at my bank by 1:00. I took the weekend off from my other job so I woke up with no worries and thinking to myself " ah, it's nice to not have to be anywhere today " then moments later realizing it was 15 minutes after 12 and I had to go GET money THEN go somewhere else to deposit it. I won the odds though. Rewarded myself with a burger from a local pub and here I am now.
Question of the Day: I got hit by a car while riding my bike. Slamed onto the hood of the car and gravity helped me to the road.
EMS took my wrist and proceded to bend it, slap it around, shake it and concluded that it wasn't broke and that I probably didn't need the big hospital bill.
The next day the pain and swelling was worse so that night I went to the hospital's ER triage. I suppose I should mention that I have a somewhat higher tolerance to pain so I gave the pain a 5 out of 10. I waited 3 1/2 hours there before I decided to leave. (next day I went to another hospital with slightly better results) It was broken badly enough for a doctor to recomend surgery. What followed is another horror story entirely.

Ah mah gawd. I thought I'd had enough medical drama for one day. But no! Dad and I went to see Ratatouille and someone started having a seizure.
Some guy in the row behind us in the disabled seats started yelling, and it sounded like someone just laughing super loudly. That happened for 20 seconds, when we heard people start "oh my"ing and turning around. The guy was seizing, so Dad, being the ex-nurse that he is(specifically an ex-psychiatric nurse, so very used to holding people down) jumped over the back of the seats(kicked the sore side of my head in the mean time :/) and helped the guy. He bit his tongue and was obviously having a grand mal seizure. Someone called 911, and someone else ran out to tell the manager, and other than that no one came to help until the guy had finished seizing. This is the second time in 24 hours that we've been involved in some sort of medical emergency. I'm kinda over it now

Nothing like a series of medical emergencies to really punctuate a day.
I went to a fancy dress party last night. The theme was to dress as something that stars with one of your initials. I have L(ee), so I picked Logan (Wolverine). I spent 6 weeks growing a beard, and yesterday I shaved the bulk of it off to make the distinctive Logan-ish mutton chops. I was pretty happy with the costume, over all. I'll see if I can find a picture.
QOTD:
'Fun' ER/hospital experiences? Well, Legs has gone to hospital twice after having heart attacks. Second time was slightly more 'fun' as she actually passed out first, then got picked up by the ambulance, and because it was the night of a long weekend, the emergency ward was packed. They ended up putting her in the staff room on an oxygen machine. I spend a couple of hours in the waiting room reviewing RemixFight entries. Excellent way to spend a night.
Myself, I have not really been admitted to hospital at all. I am extremely boring, no run ins with the law, no hosiptal visits...

Two heart attacks???

yeah... not simultaneous though. They were something like four months apart.
She has a pre-existing heart condition, some syndrome that I cannot spell. Isenmenger? Eisenmenjer? Something like that. The second heart attack was caused after we went and saw X-Men 3... no more apt review of the film have I witnessed since.

Hugh Jackman has that effect on women.
So is she ok now? Like, has the problem been fixed, or is it something you two have to just live with and hope for the best? .

without appearing all uncharacteristically serious and whatnot...
Yes she is ok now, though not through the problem being fixed. The larger problem is the hole in her heart that seeps blood onto her lungs. Thats problem numero uno. Subsequent problems that occur because of this are extremely low white blood cell count (so shes very suseptible to, well, everything viral or bacterial) , low pulse rate (4 bpm off being officially critical!), shortness of breath (she can't run very far very fast, she can't go up more than 2 steps without getting short of breath) and she can't have a baby otherwise childbirth will kill her (literally). So overall, ok is debatable.
The heart attacks in question seemed to be caused by blood clots, that were in turn caused by her tonsils being infected. So they wanted to cut out her tonsils, which is another thing that might kill her, because he has a higher risk of dieing under anesthetic. But they did it, and it turned out ok, and heart attacks haven't occured since, which is good.
Lastly, yes, they could cut out the old heart and pop in a new one, but the general consensus seems to be that that would be putting a time limit on her life. If they put in a new heart, she'd have, say, five years of life, where as with her current bung heart she could go for another 50 years. She wasn't expected to live past two when she was born, so she is doing pretty well, all things considered.

Thanks for explaining that. I always feel so bad for people with issues like this. But it sounds like you two are living a happy life, so that makes me feel better.

Wow, sausageboy, that's pretty amazing. Good health and long life to her, I hope.

Please tell me they didn't cut it off, and that's why still to this day you're waving in your avatar to remind you of the good times you and your hand once had. Oh, and I'm happy you picked a waving avatar and not.....
....well, I'm just happy you picked waving.

I want to change it to me swinging my arm full circle loop on a guitar like Pete Townshend OR some kind of pointy finger dance loop. I'm just lazy.
No, short horror story is that the orthopedist who recomended surgery, that took me two weeks to get into his office, sent me away. My lawyer found me another doctor which took me another two weeks to get a date with. That doctor was great, but he was perplexed why I had came to see him after meeting with an orthopedic surgeon that could have helped me two weeks ago. Wha? yeah, that first doctor was also a surgeon and sent me away. Presumably because he didn't think I was going to be able to pay him. Funny too, because my Personal Injury Protection took care of my bills ultimately, and I recieved a $10,000 check the next day from the other dude's insurance company. I never got surgery... just a fancy split that resemebled a bowling glove and therapy. Ok, thats as short as I can make it.
