July 7:

Well, I was going to get on my project first thing this morning, when for some odd reason, and completely out of nowhere, my AGS (Anti-Virus) program detected and quarantined my Adobe Audition execute file because it believes it is a trojan. I have absolutely no idea why it would believe this, since it also is rejecting me copying the file straight from the CD also. Anyone else who have these same two programs, are you having this problem as of today?

QotD:

How do you deal with technical difficulties when they come up and the deadline looming nearby?

QotD:
That isn't really a question. Put simply - some people are professional about what they do, and do it. Other people just complain a lot.

QotD: I try to plan in advance for what could go wrong and set up some alternatives. I try to plan the project so that all the "technical" bits get test-flown early on and I'm not surprised. I'm very hesitant to do any software upgrades (even stuff not directly related to what I'm working on) until I'm between projects; more than once, I've had the situation where program X stops working after I install program Y. I look on the internet for help (if you'd posted this in the "Help and How To" forum, you might get some ideas, it's probably not appropriate for the "Roll Call" section). I try to focus on "what is the desired end product and is there some other way of getting there?" As early as I can, I try to have something in hand that I could "turn in" if things fall apart. If I've made a good effort to deal with the problem and it still isn't fixed, I give the customer a little bit of warning - the worst thing to do is to keep them in the dark until right before the deadline and then let them know I have nothing.

I'm not familiar with Audition at all, but if you look at the logs in AGS, it may tell you WHY it thinks your file is a virus (and the fact that it's rejecting a CD copy of a file it has already rejected really shouldn't be surprising at all...). AGS probably has a way you can tell it this particular file is not a virus (although if the executable file is what you'll be delivering to the customer, keep in mind their virus checker may kick it out as well, and you don't want that), or you could turn off the virus checker altogether to let you continue working on the project. Keep in mind - I'm not saying that you are, but if you are working with cracked software, it's entirely possible that the Audition file really IS a trojan - my understanding is that AGS is considered a pretty good virus checker, maybe it's trying to save you some grief down the line.

I don't think we want to solve your specific technical problems here in the Roll Call, but those are some of the things I would think of if I found myself in your situation. Depending on how much money / reputation / future business is at stake, you may have to spend some money yourself to dig out of this hole, take a loss on this project, and chalk it up to the cost of a practical education.

Anyway... the Mrs. is expected home late tonight or sometime tomorrow, so today is mostly a housecleaning day. Things are actually not in terrible shape, if I just kinda keep at it all day I should be fine, but I have some extra stuff to deal with - we're going to have a guest for part of next weekend, which means the guest room (my studio overflow / storage room) needs to get cleaned out and my bathroom needs to be put in condition that company could use it...

QOTD: I hit the object that isn't working. Normally it works(kitchen scales yesterday, laptop buzzing, iPod not turning on). Probably not good in the long term, but it works short term.

Went to bed super early and woke up at 5am today(very strange), so I spent the early morning redoing my website with new colors and sorting out the all the files lurking about. Today I'm at work from 10am-4pm looking after a kids furniture/gift store. In the first hour, nobody has come in, but I've written lyrics for Ottoman, started brainstorming themes for my AAW WTF, and read 100 pages of HP 5. Very productive for $7.50. If anyone's as bored as I am, feel free to IM(AIM - Bjam1402) me and we can discuss literature and art. It'll be a great time.

I predict that the next five hours will go just as boringly. Afterwards I'm buying paint for my bedroom and bathroom(warm lemon with a pretty red/orange/yellow border up top), as well as a curtain rod and curtains. Yay painting.

just woke up...nice to sleep in.

Last night went awful for me.
1. I got home late from work (traffic)
2. I couldn't draw enough money out of the bank to pay back a loan
3. I forgot the pin to get cash on my credit card
4. I forgot to put on deoderant before I went out so was forced to buy some.
5. I couldn't remember any of the lyrics to Tommy Gun at the Punk Rock Karoke and peformed tragically bad.

Getting McDonalds and watching Family guy before crashing was the only part of my night salvagable. Even then I had to fight constantly to put my lousy performance out of my mind the whole time.

qotd: I just work hard at fixing whatever problem I'm having. But I'm with KA, I try not to get fancy with any updates or settings until the project is done no matter if program, OS, or whatever has anything to do with the project.

QotD - Phil fixes all of my technical difficulties

The day - today has been a pretty great day so far. Woke up with the kids (cutest kids ever I must add), had breakfast, picked up toys, vacuumed, did the dishes, washed and dried kid clothes, gave them a bath and shipped them off to the grandparent's house.

Phil woke up in a good mood because the house was clean and I made him coffee. After the kids left, I went and got us Chipotle burritos and chips & quac, we ate our food, and watched Pirate Master. We got really full and then took a nap! A nap!! An uninterrupted nap! It was fabulous! I just woke up from my nap. Phil is still asleep, but I'm supposed to wake him up in a few minutes. We're gonna watch Green Wing and hang out. Super happy! :)

Sleep for the adult Redmon's seems to be the equivalent to "alone time" for me in my house. I don''t need the sleep, I need to be left alone so that I can think.
