We should challenge them to a song off.

The idea of the site is fine and dandy. But calling it songfight is despicable. It's not a fight and it's not a part of the songfight realm. Nur Ein is in the songfight realm but I wouldn't dare call it Songfight Presents Nur Ein (or some other Songfight related name) unless I had the expressed permission by JB or Spud.
Why didn't they just make up their won name instead of using a name that has been in existence for over half a decade?
Like I said good concept but lame execution. Get your own name.

did you notice, that instead of octothorpe, they have a "contributer" with the band name of octofist? hella-stupid.

Yeah, if Songfight was a corporation...there would definitely be branding issues. Lets send them a cease and desist. We worked hard on branding SONGFIGHT! and affiliates for them to infringe? !
(I'm joking of course)
On a serious note, do they know about us? Wouldn't they almost have to? I could see them trying songfight.com only to find a steep price on the domain name...but any search engine...

I was going to answer "Because they didn't bother to check that no one else was using the name" but then I saw "Charles V" on that page. Doesn't he know about Songfight?

They only have, like, 21 members...so I wouldn't be too concerned.
Maybe Oust got his shit together?
Edit:

They know about Songfight. Their myspace headline is "this is kind of a stolen idea... i guess"

But, of course, that would mean we'd have to listen to all of their songs and thus play right into their hands.
Devious fiends!

not really.
a lot of their submissions are covers themselves.
you could just listen to the original and cover that.
personally, i don't how you can songfight with just a vague idea for a song, and people contributing cover songs. what are you judging then except for technical ability and production value? why call it songfight then?
rediculous.
if you're going to copy it, then copy it right.

I guess Oust is finally living up to his threat to start his own Utopian community.
*This guy probably picked up on SF from the dumbrella days. He's got links to a few of those comics.

Automated Redemption
Essentially, Automated Redemption has a forum that has a bunch of musicians on it. They knew about Songfight from the Dumbrella days. One of the people there wanted to get the AR musicians to do more music and decided to throw an AR songfight.
Maybe we should go over and invite them to play in our sandbox. Any of them any good?

Well, I see Charles V's name over there, and he is 1/2 of the talent behind that song "Genius #1" by "Genii (Genius Plural)".
I like that song alot.

Where on here have I seen that name Colonpipe? Or Colonpipe.org? Didn't a couple SFers have that name?

For a second there I thought "AR" might have meant "Alternate Reality" or "Australian Rules" or something...
