Thursday morning, and I'm looking for a slow day at work, but can't be offered any promises. My wife slept in late (this is her day to do so). Normally, mornings before she wakes up are my guitar practicing time, and if there's a fight in process, when I work on that. If there's no fight and I don't feel like practicing, it's also my video game time.

QotD: What does your morning routine consist of?

Once my wife does get up, we usually sit down with a cup of coffee and watch one of the following TV shows: "Spongebob Squarepants", "Murphy Brown", or go on the computer to watch http://www.homestarrunner.com. That lasts about 30 minutes when we have to get ready for the day.

qotd(first because it seems appropriate): I get up around 7:45am which is about 15 minutes too late. Consistently. I turn the AC back up and turn the fans off so it's not EFFING freezing then AND when I get out of the shower. I shower...the usual stuff...but I add shaving and teeth brushing while I'm in the shower. There's a drain. I get dressed. I try to make what I'm having for lunch.

Thats it. I'm half asleep during the whole routine which is good. I start coming to while I'm in the car on the way to work. Only then do I realize where I'm at and where I'm going. By then its too late.

I'm there now.

QotD: my mornings generally start about 4 a.m., when I get up to take the dogs out for a walk - partly because in the summer in AZ, you have to get up that early to beat the heat, and partly because one of our dogs goes kinda nuts if she sees another dog out walking, and the earlier we go, the less likely anybody else will be out there. And partly because the dogs are there at the side of the bed by 4 telling me it's time to get up, and if I don't get up and take them out, they just keep everybody awake... Dogwalks last somewhere between half and hour to an hour, but if they don't get their morning walk, we pay for it later in the day. Usually a cup or two of coffee in the back yard and then make sure the Mrs. is awake by about six. On Saturdays, part of the regular morning routine is breakfast at Cracker Barrel. On Sundays when there's a Formula 1 race on Speed TV, I try to watch that live (5 a.m. - 7 a.m. Arizona time).

Today will be pool class and lunch with my mom, a bunch of housestuff that needs attention, and I'm hoping to do a bit of recording (one of the "churchly" songs I mentioned yesterday). Get some prescription refills started, etc. etc.

Funny stuff there, Hoblit. Charles, I ususally get a cat alarm around the same time as your dogs are revving up. 4 AM, that is. But I'm up 5:30-5:45, coffee and library, out for a 45 minute walk by 6:15. I'll look at the posts here on either side of the walk. Spiff up and start the day.

I'm all excited that I not only won the Pumpkin Buzzard fight, but my name is on the front page news here at Songfight!! Rubbing shoulders with the Titans of Tune Town! But don't worry - they won't stain permanently. :)

I wake up at 5:55 am, I sit on the toilet. I shower, get dressed, I make my lunch, grab my keys, my wallet, a ferry ticket, and I wake Dana up at 6:25 so she can drive me down to the 6:40 ferry. I sit on the ferry (often sipping my first coffee) and after a 10 minute ferry ride I walk to the car that is parked in the lot, drive to work. I arrive at work at 7:20, I get another cup of coffee and turn my laptop on. I usually have to sit with at least one employee to discuss whatever issue ails them, and at 7:40 when they head down to the line, I check my email, I check my gmail, I check facebook, I check songfight, the gert board, the cbc website, a couple hockey websites and at 8 am I start figuring out the crew by crew labour costing for the day.

Then my day changes.

I stayed up late last night goofing around with google sketch up, and decided to whip up a short little video of the studio layout I have commited too so I could get some feedback from the hipcola, and others for that matter. I threw an instrumental track on behind it that I was working on and did a voice over... it was fun. If you would like to check it out, go here:
http://www.tomskillman.ca/video/

There is a zipped file, (25 mb) or unzipped (41 mb).

This is what I want the room I have ( a 24 x 26 detached builiding) to look like... I am started in two weeks, where I will remove the current existing garage door and wall it in (my worst leak spot of them all) and then I'm gonna build the hall around the current door... most likely I won't progress to the next step until next spring, which will be adding a second wall infront of the current wall, creating a 1 foot thick wall around the exterior area. But who knows... I've been dreaming and planning this forever as I can't afford to do what I want, and what I got does the job until I (ever) do! The garage door is gone after August though,t hat's a fersure thing.

Um. later.

1. 6:30: 2-year old approaches wife's side of bed. Choice point A: try to keep sleeping (go to 2) or get up now (go to 5).

2. 6:31: Haul 2-year old onto bed, turn on TV (end of Mr. Rogers/start of Between the Lions). Try/pretend to sleep until 6:45, when 4-year old, woken by the alluring sounds of TV comes in. Choice point B: try to keep sleeping (go to 3) or get up now (go to 5).

3. 6:59: Realize that if you don't want the theme from "Arthur" stuck in your head all day, you must turn the TV off and get going. Choice point C: try to tolerate it (go to 4) or get up now (go to 5).

4. Some stuff happens but you really don't know what's going on because all you can think about is "Listen to your heart, listen to the beat, listen to the rhythm, the rhythm of the street...and I say hey (HEY!), what a wonderful kind of day..." etc. etc. etc. THE END: YOU LOSE.

5. 6:31 or 6:46 or 7:15: Make coffee, pour cereal, pour milk, answer/balk at questions (sample questions: "Why is oatmeal not for lunch?" "Why is milk from cows?" "Why is my cup red?"), shower, dress kids and self, let dog out, get everyone in car, take kids to daycare. Choice pont D: bike (go to 6) or drive (go to 7) to work.

6. Yay! Good mood. Good feelings. Productive day. THE END: YOU WIN!

7. There is no parking anywhere near the hospital. But you drive in circles just in case. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky. But probably not. THE END: BLAH DAY.

Wake up at 6:30am

Lie in bed until 6:50am

Get out of bed, have a shower, get dressed 6:50 - 7:00am (shower only takes 2 to 3 minutes. Then dirt and bugs start to come out of the shower head. Bugs are not part of a healthy hair care routine. Dirt, maybe)

7:00am eat something (toast, cereal, leftover dinner, whatever takes my fancy)

7:10am brush teeth

7:15am make lunch

7:25am hide treats for the cat. It basically the only exercise he gets, creeping around the house looking for them.

7:30am off to catch the train

7:43am train leaves train station

8:02am someone will usually get on and cough or sneeze on me by this time

8:40 arrive at work (after switching trains and walking a couple of km or so)

qotd: My morning routine is to get up, take a shower, check my email, and maybe start to look at my daily website litany depending on whether it's a workday and/or if I'm stalling going to work. I might have breakfast but I usually don't. If I have a pot of iced coffee in the fridge I'll probably have some of that though. Then depending on workday-ness and timing I'll often relive the bridge of A Day In The Life, sans smoking. (Ostensibly that won't be the case after I move since BART runs much more regularly than the Seattle bus.)

drc: My condo is sold! (I got full asking price! Once again I lucked out and made a profit on a home I owned way less than the supposed break-even period!) The sale closes on the 31st. Movers are scheduled for the 23rd. My remaining social calendar is closing out fast. (The date on that entry is in the future so that it will remain the top item on my weblog.) Yesterday I got crapped on by a bird! Life is grand.

I go to bed between 6 and 8 am. Then I stay asleep for the rest of the morning.

When I wake up (between 2 and 4 pm) I take a wizz and then take my medicine. Then I usually make waffles and drink Sprite. Then I eat the waffles. Then I check the mail. Then I throw away the junkmail and think about how mail boxes suck. Then I brush my teeth and shower. Then I sit around for awhile thinking about what I should do that day.

I am not a morning person, but less not a morning person than Dan, evidently. I usually get to bed around 2, the alarm goes off at 8:10 and I am probably up by 9, then I feed the cats, make my espresso, shower, drink espresso, have cereal with lactose free milk, read songfight, go to work. Exciting!

My morning routine varies slightly depending on if I'm taking the bus or driving, but here it is:

-If taking the bus, 1st alarm goes off at 4:30am, second at 4:40.

-I drag myself out of bed, pee, go down stairs, get a Diet Coke from the fridge and an oatmeal square from the cupboard.

-Eat and drink while checking my internets (email, gmail, SF, Phil's LiveJournal, the Spy vs. Pie site, both MySpaces, work email).

-Will myself to get in the shower by 5:15

-Get ready (get out of the shower, put on lotion, brush teeth, put on make up, get dressed, fix hair - in that order).

-Ready by 6:05 am, go back downstairs, get my Lean Cuisine out of the freezer and my morning work diet coke, put in a plastic grocery bag for transport

-Walk to the bus

-Bus comes at 6:17. Get to downtown Saint Paul and wait for second bus.

-Get to work at 7:10.

If I drive I get to sleep in for an extra hour, so all times move up by approximately 1 hour... but if I drive I tend to procrastinate more and I end up getting to work around 7:45 when I'm supposed to be there at 7:30

Since the 35W bridge collapsed last week, the traffic going into downtown Minneapolis has been atrocious, so I've taken the bus more than driven. That means I'm extra tired now.

Update on the stupid supervisor position thing. I just found out yesterday that I didn't get the job. Today I was pretty angry at work. In fact, I'm pretty angry now. They went with an external candidate. Stupid jerks.

channel that anger into some hell yeahs heather. thank god for memphis is calling.....

qotd: typically dreadful and since i repeat it every day, i really don't feel like talking about it. :)

get up, look blurry-eyed at some website for a few minutes, then reread them all after my vision's 90%+. do that for a few hours or until it's absolutely necessary that i go do something (class, work, whatever). then once i absolutely have to do something, put it off for a few minutes while i have a banana or a bagel or whatever, and then feel proud that i accomplished something. find ipod, wallet, cell phone, keys, put on some cologne/deodorant/brush teeth, realize i'm still wearing the same shirt as yesterday, try to find a new shirt, put on a different shirt, decide i don't like that one after all or it's dirty, find a third shirt, put that on. leave.

tomorrow at 1pm (pacific) I'm going to be interviewing an experimental rock act from Brooklyn, Nymph. tune in!
