The Song Fight Bulletin Board

Anyone use any cool ones that I should know about. I haven't started incorporating them into my software yet but i want to try them out. I think I understand how they work, and from what Sonar tells me my Home Studio 2 program comes with the VST adapter so i should be able to plug in different patches to work with.

Ken's free plug in thread is gold! I've gotten every one of my FX from that thread. I suggest down loading the Modern suite.

Some quick recommendations of non-free VSTs:

1) Reaktor. If you have sufficient patience, this is almost the only plugin you will ever need. If you're human and do not have unlimited patience, it's still awesomely awesome.

2) Guitar Rig. Particularly useful if you like to make strings vibrate, but don't overlook it's use on other instruments.

3) Realguitar. Particularly useful if you would like to make strings vibrate but are not very good at it. Sadly only acoustic guitars for now, but realstrat is on it's way and looks promising.

4) Virtual Guitarist. Good for rhythm electric guitar noises.

5) Battery. Best drum vst out there, I reckon.

6) Nostalgia. If you like old synths, this is a must

7) Melodyne plugin. If you sing as badly as I do, you'll want this. People talk about autotune all the time, but melodyne is where it's really at.

I also particularly like line 6's gearbox plugin, but that's probably only useful if you have some form of Pod XT. In fact, I think it uses my podxt live as a dongle, come to think of it.

I recently discovered that Battery doesn't have a sequencer... what do you use in conjunction with it?

Melodyne is indeed the bomb. Way better than autotune.

Cubase if I'm writing, the bitstream 3x's arpegiator if I'm just fucking around on the keyboard and want a beat.

It might even be one more awesome. You can get lost in it.

Are there any sites that explain how the frig to use these. I have Home Studio 2 from cakewalk and it comes with VST 4, i got everything saved correctly and i can open them up in the Home Studio project but i don't hear anything at all. Things like compressors, do you adjust them after you record or before.

As Steinberg have only recently released version 3 of the VST standard, I think that's pretty unlikely!

I think he means version 4 of Cakewalk's VST adapter.

yeah, it's cakewalks VST. I'm probably just gonna get Sonar 6 so i know i have the current software that can support VST's, maybe home studio 2 is just outdated. Or maybe I'm too lazy to care.
