I have this and I like this. I don't think I ever told you that. Also, your note from back in May meant a lot. Thank you.owl wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 10:42 pmI'm only a couple of months late, but I posted up a Bandcamp album of the 8 solo songs I wrote and recorded for February Album Writing Month this year, including fight winner "The White Morph":

My father has performed John Denver's "Perhaps Love" at 4 family weddings over the last few decades. FireBear got married in August and I recorded a cover duet version with my dad to play at the wedding. I also couldn't help but take the time to create "the version no one asked for" with loud guitars and drums. And it's my spotify debut, so that's fun.

It’s a lovely song! I’m interested in your Spotify experience. I have no real idea how to even get on there or what it’s like once you’re there. Here, Atticus wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 9:03 amMy father has performed John Denver's "Perhaps Love" at 4 family weddings over the last few decades. Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Thanks man!
Getting onto Spotify was way easier than I anticipated.
I did a bunch of research on the different distributors out there, and ended up going with RouteNote.
They have a "free" model wherein you don't pay anything to have them distribute your songs on pretty much every store and streaming service out there. They take 15% of your streaming revenue and sales, but that's no biggie for someone like me with no established following or fans. If at some point any of your stuff does start to gain traction, you have the option to convert that song/EP/album to their premium plan. At that point, you pay a yearly fee up front (I think it's like $20 or $50 for a full album) and RouteNote stops taking any royalties. You get 100% of what that release makes. I like that option because you never know what will happen! It didn't seem like any of the other services work on a model like this.
Their website can be a little glitchy, but everything seems to be working how it's supposed to regarding the distribution, and their support team was super fast in responding to the one question I asked.
I also went with them because they handle all the royalty distribution for covers. Covers get sent to far fewer services and stores. But as long as you do the attribution properly, they handle everything else.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
We have a whole long old thread discussing digital distributor options:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10048&hilit=least+shitty
tl;dr it's very straightforward to get your music onto the major streaming services these days, for little or no money up front depending on the payment/royalties model the distributor uses.

This is a few weeks old now -- we had some massive flooding in British Columbia and Washington State. Here's a song about colonialism the limits of white collar denial and blue collar grit. Long live sea chanty Tik Tok or whatever!

Got a new EP out called Float Day. It includes three songs from Song Fight, two SpinTunes numbers, and two new tracks. Check it out if you’re interested.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
How long does a release stay “In Review” for? I submitted something several days ago. I didn’t expect it to take so long to make it through.

From https://support.routenote.com/kb-articl ... cess-work/ - "Our moderation times are usually around 72 hours, but this can be delayed during times of high demand."
Side note, Songtradr offers approximately the same things but with better pricing - the default cut is 10% rather than 15% and plans for a 0% cut start at $19.99 per year per artist (not per release).

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Thanks! I actually ended up finding that page myself about ten minutes after posting the question on here.
As for pricing, I’m pretty sure the royalties I earn will be so incalculably low that the five percent will never be noticeable. All the same, I may look into it for future releases!

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
So after I finished my Brace Yourself song, I had some extra time and decided to bang out another song. And it's probably the most fun I've had making a song in a long time. Check it out. It's called Nananana. You'll hear why.

Got a little experimental with a non-SF song. Let me know if I should experiment more with my vocal styles.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Bit the bullet today after reading the Australian news yesterday to learn that they’ve cut arts funding again. Listed this shadow song from last Spintunes (the two chord challenge) on all the fancy streaming places. It’s dedicated to my old MP in Australia, and making it turned my seething anger frown upside down.
