Hello. It seems people don't care about this day or something. Usually a thread is already up by the time I check the board.

High School Shit:

So here's my deal. For the longest while I've been in this I don't want to be in a relationship with another person thing. I like the independence and all the other single stuff. Life is fun and awesome right now.

So then. There's a girl. I'm told by a reliable source that she has a crush on me. AND I kinda like her, because she's really cool and awesome and cute, etc.

So I'm like shit. What do I do? I graduate in May. Do I want to start a relationship? Do I want to go that way? She graduates a year after me. I want out of Indiana. Why am I thinking this far ahead? Am I fucking insane?

I need advice.

qotd: What is your favorite type of dinosaur?

Answer: My favorite dinosaur is either deinonychus or iguanadon.

Fodroy: I don't think I can help you. The first thing I thought was 'why don't you tell her she's cute and awesome, but you don't know what's coming up next in your life, so is that a big deal or what'. But I don't know if that's good advice. I've been out of the game for quite a while.

My day: Working. Looking forward to this one being over. After work I'm playing a private party here in Campton.

QotD: Whenever I think DINOSAUR an image of a stegosaurus comes to mind, so that's probably my favorite.

It's high school and so don't think that far ahead. When I met my wife in High School, I didn't think "Hmmm, how are things gonna be with us 15 years from now". Go for it and have fun.

QotD:
Archaeopteryx

Date the girl. Break up with her if you end up thinking "I should break up with her" alot.

I used to collect stegosauruses, because my college girlfriend got nicknamed "Stegosaurus" after she cut her own bangs waaaaayyy too short one time. I sang her the little song "My Name is Stegosaurus" that I learned in kindergarten. She was not amused.

How about this one?

He's sort of my mascot. But seriously, this is a tough question because they are all cool. I think when I was growing up my favorite was Triceratops, they have a good one in the Buffalo Museum of Science and that was always inspiring. These days I think more like one of the small carnivores on two legs, like Compsognathus or similar, I should watch that "Walking with Dinosaurs" again. I totally dig pterosaurs and suchlike, but they're not dinosaurs.

Definitely, go for it, fodroy. It should be ok.

Go for it. If it works out, that's great. If not, you've got SongFight fuel for years!

QotD: This one.

Yeah. I don't know why I said high school. I just felt weird and high schoolish. I'm 22 and college is near done for me.

I had this conundrum in high school too I guess. I never got involved with anyone because my attitude was "I'm about to graduate. I don't want to start something and then have to end it because of college and never seeing each other again. blah blh blah." I don't know if that's a good attitude. I hated high school because it felt like nothing ever happened.

Thanks to all who answered with advice. I'm thinking hard about this one.

Fortunately, I don't have to think too hard on it this weekend since she's out of town. I can just do whatever for now. Tonight it's a metal show at the Heorot (the most manly bar/pub in the world). I don't even know who's playing. I just know it's metal, and that's good enough.

And hell yes to having a dinosaur for a mascot.

SO true.

I'd be living in Seattle right now if it did.

I say go for it.

QOTD: I've never seen any actual dinosaurs, so I don't really have enough information to make up my mind.

Here.

You have nothing to lose except future regret. You should ask her out and see where it goes.

I'm old school - I like brontosaurus.

Yeah, yeah. I know.

Oh, and Dinosaur Jr. is good

It took me a minute to remember what that was. That's the band Lou Barlow was in, but he was kind of dominated by whoever the main singer/songwriter guy was, so he quit and started Sebadoh, right?

QOTD: I can never remember how to spell dinosaur names, but I'm pretty sure my favorite is the Suxalotapuss. I have a picture of one eating a bush. Image

Most definitely go for it! May is an eternity away!

(Plus, if it doesn't work out, you have a handy escape route!)

I should also point out that the whole "Single" and "Involved" thing isn't a binary switch. There are all kinds of gradations of commitment between "single" and "scarily co-dependent." You get to have some say about where your relationship falls on that scale, and you can adjust and make it up as you go.

The independence and fun single stuff doesn't have to go away... in fact I would argue that in healthy relationships it shouldn't.

All of my college flings were sleazy and embarrassing.

I wish I'd had more of them.

...Oh... and he's not a dinosaur, but my favorite beastie of antiquity is this guy, for hometown pride reasons.

Oh... and I meant to mention -- except for the few blessed with fabulous genetics or bajillions of dollars, most of us have to confront the unfortunate fact that there is actually a pretty small window of life in which 21 year olds will have anything to do with us romantically.

Gather ye rosebuds...etc.

Have we convinced you yet?

QotD: TOrontoStar, obviously...

Umm, did a lot of housecleaning today. Went out and bought a new DVR/VCR unit at Best Buy; in the process of installing it, the cable TV set top box stopped working, so I took that over to Cox and got a replacement, but it was a different model, which seems to require a different incoming signal level than the old one (Scientific Something model 3100 vs. 3250) and so the signal on the new one gets all choppy and dropped out; if I bring the second old one downstairs and hook it up, it works fine, but when they come out on Sunday afternoon to try to adjust the signal level for the new one it's going to screw up reception on the old one... the new Samsung DVR/VCR unit seems to work great, although I'm a little scared of the DVR unit... as I understand it, if you're recording a show and you get a bad spot on the disk or a power glitch or anything, you potentially lose the ENTIRE program you're recording, as opposed to a videotape, where you could lose a little content but you'd still get to see your show.

I've come up with a song for the "I Dragged Her Down" tournament over at Tuneflow, so I'm going to be working on that one next week instead of the sf titles...

Going up north tomorrow on a photo safari with some friends to (hopefully) catch the aspens just as they're changing colors. Must make sure the cambats are charged up and that I can find at least a few memory sticks...

Fodroy - Youth is on your side. Go for it and even if it turns out a horror show, one day it'll be a fuzzy memory set safely in your past.

BLT - You're a dope. :)

QOTD - Triceratops or Brontosaurus fer sure.

Seeing as I've known you forever now, I knew that statement sounded off.
