There are a lot of gun boats in the NYC harbor. Can't wait until the UN meetings are over. As I'm walking across the Brooklyn Bridge I'm imagining someone letting loose with those big guns as the boat is bouncing up and down in the waves.
QotD: What's your favorite bottled water? (OK, didn't think "what's your favorite gun boat" would get many passionate responses)
I like Poland Spring and Vermont Pure. It seems peoples' tastes in water have everything to do with the chemistry in your mouth and little to do with how "neutral" the water is, since there really is no neutral. This explains why I simply can't stand Evian. And why you may hate Poland Spring. Fascinating, right? See...daily roll call is the gift that keeps giving.

Bottled water is the single biggest scam pulled on society since Milli Vanilli. It's perpetrators should be lined up against a wall and shot. It is one of the best schemes for taking money off the gullible yet devised.
Unless you are living in some developing nation like China, India or the USA where domestic water supplies are not up to first world standard - the stuff in the tap will usually have undergone far greater treatment than anything out of a bottle. That is - assuming the stuff in the bottle didn't come straight from the tap in the first place, which or course most of it does.
Having said that - I live in the third world hell-hole that is Queensland where we don't have fluorodated water. That pisses me off. Fluoride in the water and daylight saving are two concepts that are just a bit too weird for the pointy-headed, gap-toothed red-necks up this way. For this reason, I try to drink at least half a dozen cans of Tooheys beer every week because it is made with fluorodated water from NSW. I do this on advice from my dentist. Actually it was a bloke in the pub, but he said he was a dentist... or at least, he knew a dentist. Whatever - it sounded like sound advice

Tap water. Actually, a really cold drinking fountain is an incredibly satisfying thing.

You're losing me.
I've had apartments in two relatively large cities (obviously one much larger than the other) and you just don't drink the tap water there. Old buildings with rusty pipes that leak (which is a two way street jack) with chlorinated and fluorinated water is simply foul to some people. I drink water that tastes like water... via consistency and flavor. (or lack thereof) It's not necessarily the mind game you suggest.
Yes, alot of the brands out there are basically municipally treated water...its still gonna be filtered better in the long run. It goes strait from the treatment to the bottle. Whereas piped water gets to 'filter' through many miles of pipe after it's initial treatment.
Zepherhills is damn good water and there is a NOTICEABLE difference in the way it tastes and feels over the tap water. I mean, I'll shower in tap water... I'll even drink it if I have to, but I keep gallons of Zephyrhills Natural Spring Water in my 'fridge for oral consumption. ( water I can even drink warm because the warmer the water the more I can taste 'the other stuff')

It's an environmental disaster of nightmarish proportions just waiting to happen - the like we haven't seen since Milli Vanilli. Drinking bottled water is just how Nazi Germany started.
Another ongoing struggle against bottled water has been happening in Crystal Springs, Florida. Crystal Springs flows directly into the Hillsborough River, which is the main drinking supply for the city of Tampa...In a letter, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, known as Swiftmud, cited Bob Thomas for allowing Zephyrhills Spring Water Co. to overdraw its allotment from the springs during July and August, 2000. Figures show that the company took 5,000 gallons per day too much in July and 3,000 a day too much in August. Terri Wolfe, leader of the Save Our Springs coalition said, "I don't believe it was an accident...I think his permit should be revoked. We're in a crisis here. The river is dying. This is Tampa's water he is screwing with."

right, and thats another argument. The city missed an opportunity to grab good water BEFORE it hits the Hillsborough river!

...I call your Milli Vanilli, and raise you
religion.
Just thought I'd stir the pot. Water is boring. Fish piss in it, end of story, lol.

HaHaHa, I was just goofin' with you Roy.
But since you asked, Motor Gun Boats.
I really like Motor Gun Boats. That is a Royal Navy term for a small military vessel of the Second World War, back when I fought next to JFK in his PT cruiser. They were physically similar to the Motor Torpedo Boats, or as we call them, MTBs, but equipped with a mix of guns instead of torpedoes. Their small size and high speed made them difficult targets for E-boats (electronic boats) or torpedo bombers, but they were particularly vulnerable to mines and yours, plus heavy weather. The large number of guns meant the crew was relatively large, usually around 300 pounds each and numbering as high as thirty on their jerseys.
Ok fine, I cheated, it was the first thing from
Googling Gun Boats. But you just seemed so happy about the boats with the guns attached to them and I wanted to share in your happiness.

Since both roll calls seem to have survived (which is kind of cool, really)...
QotD: I don't have a favorite bottled water. More often than not, the water from the tap is plenty drinkable here. On the occasions that I do get bottled water, I usually cheese out and get one of those flavored waters.

Yeah, they're probably not a 'healthy' drink or anything. I just do it so someone who sees me from a distance might get the impression I'm taking good care of myself.
...he says, pouring another Jager shot...

There are dozens, and larger ones, too. Then

Usually, Zephyrhills is what everyone has around here, since it's pretty cheap, since it's a semi-local product. And it actually is from a spring. It's alright, not the best, but I love all sorts of bottled water. Imported ones are usually overpriced, probably due to transportation costs more than anything. Some of the best water I've had, I bottled myself at a waterfall near a glacier in Alaska. That said, I drink a lot of filtered tap water. Usually, if I'm paying for bottled water, it's usually going to be sparkling mineral water. I also spring for the much cheaper club soda, from time to time, for a change from regular water.
Oh, shit, I have to go buy transmission fluid before everything closes. Bye.
