one day closer to Friday. :)

qotd: if i was going to visit you in whatever corner of the world you live in, what restaurant would you take me to that offers good food at a good price, and why?

it might be nice to have a little list of spots to keep for future reference.

I'm home sick today. The last few days of strenuous activity has left me exhausted. So I'm taking a much needed day to recover.

QotD: If you were coming to my neck of the woods, I would suggest the Charlie Brown's Steakhouse.

Roll call: Late night at the open mic. I'm still draggin' ass. No show tonight though, so me and the boys will probably just play some Lego Star Wars or something.

Sean turns 1 this Sunday. If you want to come to the birthday party, you're more than welcome. It's gonna be pretty low-key; we're having cake at my parents' place in Holderness, and watching football.

QotD: If you were coming out here, I'd ask you what places (if any) you remembered. If nothing came to mind, then we'd probably end up at The Lucky Dog in Plymouth, or The Sunset Grill in Campton. It'd depend on where the music was happening that night.

Hey -

QotD: I would take you to Cracker Barrel, which is a southern-style chain restaurant that (I think) doesn't have any places in California because the labor laws are tougher there. We would definitely go for breakfast, that's what keeps us going back just about every Saturday morning.

I might also ask how you feel about spicy Mexican food, and if you're into that, we would make a pilgrimage to the main Los Dos Molinos in south central Phoenix.

In other comestible-related news, I hardly ever go to Starbuck's, but they just released a brand-new Joni Mitchell album ("Shine"), so I used up a couple of the gift certificates that my wife's students gave her at the end of last year... haven't listened yet, but I'm going on one of these overnight turnaround trips to Disneyland this weekend with our church youth group, and I'm loading up the MP3 player with all Joni stuff, so it'll be a good chance to check it out...

QOTD: Riverside Corral, no question about it. Plentiful drinks, good food, friendly staff, passable to occasionally excellent music on the sound system.

Did I mention the strippers? Heh.

Portland is so full of yummy food, that it's hard for me to pick one place. I live in foodie paradise.

I'd probably pick Higgins, Farm, Tandoor and Pho Van for starters.

Oh! And Le Pigeon.

...And I'd have a whole 'nother list for breakfast! Don't even get me started.

QotD: Well, while there's absolutely NOTHING in this backwater town, I'd probably take you to Olive Garden in the big ol' city of Jacksonville... Pretty cheap, and I'm married to a (2nd gen) italian, so pasta becomes the majority of our cuisine.

Jack, I'd love to go eat at Emily's Lebanese Deli with you. Also, if you like sausages and cabbage rolls, Kramarckzuc's is very much the bomb.

I get on a plane for Maryland in less than 5 hours. Woob!

And also, I made a little electronical tune the other day:

There's a fun solar-powered Cuban restaurant in Fort Green we like called Havana Outpost. There are a few dozen other choices of good quality, but we only get out once a month or so.

What brings you to HInc's neck of the woods?

SPX, the Small Press Expo. I'm hoping it will give me a shot of comic powers.
I'm finally gonna meet the other half of Spy Vs. Pie! In person, even!

I'd LOVE to go there. I love Lebanese food.

1. Move
2. Your married to a second generation Italian and she lets you take her to the Olive Garden?
3. Also note, drive your butt over to St. Augustine instead there is an S-TON of good food there. (note, there is a great Lebanese restaurant over there that I can't remember the name of right now)

---------------

QOTD: Jack, I'd take you to The Tampa Bay Brewing Company Its not exactly cheap but its 'non chain' GOOD food. They have pizza and burgers as well as roast pork tenderloin, filets, and other nice dishes too.

Price wise I'd take you to Estellas Mexican restaurant. I love this little place and the food is good for the price.

There are a ton of Greek restaurants down here, but the one that is pretty good and really good for the price is Byblos offers Lebanese (and Mediterranean) food along with atmosphere. I personally think it's over priced but when I have a bunch of money in the bank I decide to go here. (or the strip club)

The best Cuban sandwiches can be found anywhere in central to south Florida that has no corporate sign and maybe a Cuban sandwich painted badly on the window or wooden street sign.

I would take Jack to, coincidentally, Fat Jack's. Best burgers in the Central Valley, bar none.

QOTD: I'm not sure. Peter's Drive In has some great burgers and probably 25 different types of shakes, but what place would actually be really good ... Limericks has good wings.

If I lived in St. Louis, I'd suggest Jake's Steaks. That place looks really sketchy on the outside, but it's a really cool place.

Ah, Bethesda? About 20 minutes to a half hour from work for me. Further from home.

To answer jack's question, if someone was staying in Bethesda, I'd send them to Wurzburg Haus, a good German place not too far from there. Near me, maybe the Indian place, Indian Delight.

QOTD: The Coach House, in San Juan Capistrano for a dinner show. I love the place and we go there often. Every week there is at least one old band you want to see. I missed Berlin last week because I was out of town. The English beat is tonight, but I can't make it. I've seen so many old bands there that the list would be too long to list. The food is a little expensive, but they have prime steaks, great appetizers and euro beers.

As for just great food with great atmosphere, The Quiet Cannon in Dana Point on the cliffs over looking the harbor or The Royal Hawaiian in Laguna Beach.

Huh! I've never been to that one. I'll have to mention it to my friends who are, ah, connoseuirs of such fine establishments! (In addition to being foodie paradise, Portland is also stripper heaven... book your arrangements now!)

Yeah, come on, guys! I think chain restaurants don't count for the QOTD!

(King Arthur, I'm shaking my finger at you too! The labor laws are too strict for Crackerbarrel to exist in California? What does that tell you about the establishment?!? ARRRGH!)

"I know this lovely little hole in the wall burger joint called McDonalds!"

Nooooo!

Ahem.

In any case, I'll gladly go with the King to get some good spicy Mexican food, and Embers, I'm guessing your 2nd gen Italian wife is a dynomite cook! Perhaps we could eat in!

This thread is making me hungry.

ha, anti-m, you are right. i'm not too big on chains.

i forgot to mention my own answer.

Jack's Hamburgers, Vallarta Burrito, or Shogun would be the local's faves.

but if you visited me, i'd probably want to take you to some dive down on the municipal pier, like the Ideal cafe. that's where i took king arthur for dinner (and a bunch of other songfight folks for breakfast).

Oh, was that sarcasm? I didn't read it as such. Use those emoticons, people! I'm dense!
